  • The Battle for the Silver Mace is an annual college football rivalry game played between the Old Dominion Monarchs and William & Mary Tribe programs. The official rivalry game began in the 2010 NCAA Division I FCS season with William & Mary winning the inaugural game 21–17 at Foreman Field. Beginning in the 2011 NCAA Division I FCS season the winner of the contest received a replica of the historic Norfolk Mace, which was presented to the Norfolk Common Council on April 1, 1754. Old Dominion was the first team to claim the trophy, winning 35–31 at Zable Stadium. The competition is part of the larger Optima Health Challenge between the two schools which is named after the contest's sponsor, Optima Health.
