He played eight games in the National Hockey League with the Winnipeg Jets during the 1979–80 season, going scoreless. He played junior hockey for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, Niagara Falls Flyers, and the Windsor Spitfires from 1976 to 1979. Undrafted by the NHL, he was signed as a free agent by the Winnipeg Jets in 1979. Rioux played eight games for the Jets in 1979-80, going scoreless. He then played in the minor pros and retired in 1981.
