  • Egyptian Mythology (エジプト神話 Ejiputo Shinwa?) is the mythology of the ancient Egyptians, dating from 3000 BCE. In Toaru Majutsu no Index, Egyptian Mythology is used as a base for certain forms of Magic, and certain aspects of Thelema draw from it.
  • Egyptian Mythology is a mythology in which the Egyptians worshipped many gods. The only hand it has in the Left Behind Series is that it is the reason Egypt needs to change their name to Osaze (since it honors Ptah and not God)
  • The origin of Egyptian mythology is difficult to trace. Egyptologists must make educated guesses about its earliest phases, based on written sources that appeared much later. The cosmology and creation myths of Egyptian mythology are diverse and vary depending on location. Many towns and provinces (nomes) also have patron gods and local deities.
  • The Egyptians had quite a lot of deities, many of whom have "turned up" in fiction, especially in the Stargate Verse as Goa'uld. They show up in The Bible, especially in the book of Exodus, most of which takes place in ancient Egypt. The history of ancient Egypt is reflected in the history of their gods. And of course, Egyptian Mythology contains the Older Than Dirt examples of many a trope. See the character sheet for a listing of the major gods and associated tropes.

The cosmology and creation myths of Egyptian mythology are diverse and vary depending on location. Many towns and provinces (nomes) also have patron gods and local deities. Other cultures imported Egyptian supernatural creatures into their myths, such as the Sphinx which was imported into Greek mythology. Greek names were also applied to Egyptian gods, resulting in Asar-Hap becoming Serapis. Egyptian deities were also exported to Rome after its annexation, with Isis, amongst others, worshipped there.

As with many other mythologies around the world there are different versions of many Egyptian myths, which results in a highly confusing mythology. Upper Egypt conquered Lower Egypt. When the formerly-two kingdoms started to merge the pantheons into one things became a mess. Some deities were merged, renamed, or outright changed to try to keep the newly united kingdom's religion straight.
