He played 51 games in the National Hockey League with the Winnipeg Jets during the 1979–80 and 1980–81 seasons, scoring two goals and ten assists. He played for the University of British Columbia from 1976 to 1979. Undrafted by the NHL, Cory was signed as a free agent by the Winnipeg Jets in 1979.

He played for the University of British Columbia from 1976 to 1979. Undrafted by the NHL, Cory was signed as a free agent by the Winnipeg Jets in 1979. He played 46 games for the Jets in 1979-80 but his NHL time dropped the next year to only 5 games. Cory played for the Tulsa Oilers until 1982, when he went to Germany to play for ECD Iserlohn. He retired at the end of the 1982-83 season.
