During the military campaign, Perotto met Gian Renaldo Tiepolo, a Venetian wizard. After a bought of accidental magic on the part of Perotto, Gian Renaldo realized he had met another wizard. Perotto had not known of his wizardry due to his accidental magic episodes being few and far-between and him not thinking anything of it. In mid-1098, Gian Renaldo brought Perotto to his home in Venice where he began training him as a wizard. During this time, Perotto fell in love with Gian Renaldo's sister, Elisabetta, and the two married at the turn of the century with her brother's blessing. With Elisabetta, Perotto had five children, two of which did not make it to adulthood. Their children from eldest to youngest were Santiago, Matteo, Valeria, Carlo, and Camila. Santiago was named after his brother and died at the age of thirteen from illness. In addition, Valeria was stillborn, which affected the De Santas greatly. Perotto raised his family at the Tiepolo Estate on the hidden island of Caldrona in the Adriatic. Gian Renaldo would die in 1155 and Perotto mourned him until his own passing at the age of 92, followed by his wife three years later.
