If a character is original to the writer but not to the canon, it is an original character, and can be a Mary Sue or Gary Stu. These will be taken care of by the PPC. There is a third category, the fan character, who is not original to the canon or the writer, but might be used throughout the fandom or by several people for the canon.[]

  • A character is the main way a player interacts with the game environment. When planning your character, you must first select a Race and you will be given the Beginner Job for that race. Once you have advanced to Lv10 and JLv10 on Trainee Island you may decide on your 1st Job transfer. That is when you choose your 1st Job. You get to choose your 2nd Job at Lv50 and JLv40, and you can get your Master Class at Lv148 and at JLv50. Your character's determines the Skill Tree you have access to. • A players' character (PC) is a character that is controlled by any player A non-player character (NPC) is a character that is not controlled by any player. Most of them are controlled by scripts, but some of them can be also possessed by a dungeon master. NPC's will pick up items left on the ground, but not go into bags/inventories. They are however, not above taking an item from a crafting station, enchantment basin, or stealing something recently placed in front of a PC. The list of some characters on Arelith can be found in .
  • A character is any sentient being in the RuneScape world. Characters fall into two categories: Player characters (commonly referred to as "players"), and Non-player characters (commonly referred to as a NPC, marked as a yellow dot on the Minimap). Players are shown in different colours on the mini-map based on what they are in relation to the player. Players in white have no affiliation to the player, players in blue are either on the same team in a minigame activity or wear the same Team cape as the player, players in green are on the player's Friends List, and players in purple are in the player's same Clan Chat. NPCs can be divided in attackable and non-attackable NPCs. Attackables are NPCs like monsters and some people like men, women and guards. Some NPCs can attack players if the player's Combat level is twice that of the monster or less. For example, if a player approaches a level 28 hobgoblin, said player will be attacked unless he or she is 57 Combat or higher. These monsters are said to be aggressive, and almost every boss and all monsters in the Wilderness are aggressive. Most monsters have combat levels just like players (exceptions are the Strange plant and the Security Guard), but many NPCs do not. On the other hand, non-attackables are like, but are not limited to Shop assistants and guides. The Lumbridge Guide explains the difference also. These NPCs can usually converse with the player or carry out a certain action, such as bankers, who allow players to access their bank accounts. Most NPCs have a certain zone through which they can move freely (exceptions are Random event NPCs and certain quest-related NPCs, such as the King's messenger, who can appear anywhere). There are many different possible 'looks' for your character. Many players do not care about their look as their characters are almost always seen wearing armour and especially bots who just use the default character setting consisting of a light skin tone, bald, and bearded. In-game players are often named by their username by other players and by NPCs. NPCs sometimes give nicknames to players depending on their relations to them or by their descriptions or by their traditions or by any other methods not mentioned here. For example, upon completion of the Fremennik Trials quest, players are called by their Fremennik name. Another example is how the troll race give names depending on what they first ate as a child. Different races call players different names as well such as 'Mortal' and 'Human'. In most quests involved with the mainstream RuneScape storyline, players are frequently referred to as, the Adventurer, meaning that the player is in fact an adventurer or a chosen hero.

  • In the context of storytelling games, a character is a fictional person portrayed by a player or a Storyteller. A player character (PC) is the character portrayed by a player, while Storyteller characters (also called non-player characters, or NPCs) are portrayed by the game's Storyteller. Characters are mechanically defined by various traits, which vary from game to game, as well as by the expected non-mechanical aspects of a character: personality, motivation, back story, quirks, and so on. In some games (mainly larger games, especially LARPs), assistant Storytellers may be selected to take on the role of one or more prominent Storyteller characters in order to free up the primary Storyteller(s) to act elsewhere. In Troupe Play, which is mainly used in Ars Magica, each player has a roster of multiple characters that they might play, though they will usually only play one of these characters at a time. In Wraith: The Oblivion (and, optionally, Kindred of the East), each wraith's Shadow is played as a distinct character by another player, who is called a Shadowguide. For lists of canonical Storyteller characters, see list of Storyteller characters.
  • A character is an actor or player in the plot. Usually, the characters are people, but in some stories, they can be animals (The Cat in the Hat, Black Beauty) or even something that would normally be an inanimate object (Thomas the Tank Engine). Characters change the situation, moving the plot along. And, the characters are sometimes changed by the situation -- they learn things or change perspective. In an allegory, characters are frequently named based on what they represent. In Pilgrim's Progress, a character named Christian, represents Christians and Christian values.

  • Truthiness. Contempt. Reactionary-ness. Fairness. Fraternity. Blind Patriotism. The Six Doric Columns of Congressional Character are ethical values that, used wisely, can cloak our choices. The “suggestions” for conduct that arise out of these sentiments constitute the unattainable ideals formerly known as “ethics,” and therefore create the illusion of ethical decision-making. There is something catchy about the number six. We might reasonably have eight or 10, 14, 17, or perhaps 21, but then public officials might have yet another reason to take off their pants; there is just too much serious work to be done. But most of those storybook virtues nestle neatly into these six, and it is known that all American presidents have been able to count at least this high. The Six Doric Columns of Congressional Character can provide a common playbook. Why is a common playbook necessary? Because the word “lexicon” is for uppity liberals. And also that people can see what unites us, and for communicating and decisions and stuff. But mostly because the chicks love the jock-talk. The Six Columns act as a multi-level filter through which to process the fetid sludge of decision-making. So, being truthy is not enough — we must also wear really long rubber gloves, those waders you don't wear to fly-fish in since the "accident," and one of those cool breathers that makes you look like an Imperial Stormtrooper. Adhering to the letter of the law is not enough — we must assign blame for our inaction and reactions. The Columns can help us detect situations where we focus so hard on overturning one moral principle that we fail to realize people think that there are others to consider — where, intent on blaming the liberal media, we ignore our duty to browbeat our waning voter base; where, struggling to send that important text message, we almost forget to vote on that bill that guy was talking about. In short, the Six Columns can dramatically improve the ethical appearance of our decisions, and thus our images and lobbyist attraction rating.

  • In Atlantica Online, a player creates a character called a main character (or hero) and then builds a team around that main by recruiting mercenaries. The term character typically means any character, usually in a formation, meaning it can apply to a main or mercenary.
  • Your character is your avatar in Shiltz, the world of Seal Online. You can customize your character in a few ways.
  • A Character is any being in the RuneScape world, and is marked by a white, blue, green, purple, or yellow dot on the mini-map. Characters fall into two categories: Player characters (commonly referred to as "players"), and Non-player characters (also known as NPCs, who are marked as a yellow dot on the mini-map.) Players are shown in different colours on the mini-map based on what they are in relation to the player. Players in white have no affiliation to the player, players in blue are either on the same team in an activity or wear the same Team cape as the player, players in green are on the player's Friends List, players in orange are in the player's same Clan chat, and players in purple are in the player's same Friend chat. Some NPCs can be attacked while others can't. Attackable NPCs are known as monsters. Some can attack players if the player's combat level is twice that of the monster or less. These monsters are said to be aggressive. NPCs who can't be attacked are simply known as NPCs (even though the term can apply to both kinds of characters). These can usually converse with the player or carry out a certain action. Examples of these NPCs are bankers, who allow players to access their bank accounts. Most NPCs have a certain zone through which they can move freely (exceptions are random event NPCs and certain quest related NPCs, such as King's messenger, who can appear anywhere). Most monsters have combat levels just like players (exceptions are the Strange plant and the Security Guard), but many NPCs do not. There are many different possible 'looks' for your character. Many players do not care about their look as their characters are almost always seen wearing armour. Different races call players different names as well such as Mortal and Human. In most quest involving with the mainstream RuneScape storyline, players are frequently referred to as, the Adventurer, meaning that the player is in fact an adventurer or a chosen hero.
