| abstract | - John "Cully" Simon (May 8, 1918 – August 8, 1980) was a professional ice hockey defenceman who played 130 games in the National Hockey League. He was born in Brockville, Ontario. He played with the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Black Hawks. Simon's name was added to the Stanley Cup in 1943 with Detroit. He played junior hockey with the Pembroke Lumber Kings in 1937-38 and then played senior hockey with the Valleyfield Braves, Cornwall Flyers, and the Verdun Bulldogs until 1941. Simon turned pro with the Omaha Knights in 1941-42 and then made the Red Wings in 1942-43, winning the Stanley Cup that year. Simon continued part time in the NHL through 1944-45, finishing that year with the Chicago Black Hawks. His NHL totals were 130 games with 4 goals and 11 assists. He also scored 1 goal in 14 playoff games. In 1945-46 he became the coach of the senior Pembroke Lumber Kings. Simon stepped down as coach and played for the Kings until he retired in 1952.
