  • The Southern Ocean is the area of water or Ocean that's nearest to the South Pole. It's also called the Antarctic Ocean. Antarctica is at the South Pole but the Southern Ocean flows round Antarctica. It has been agreed internationally to call this area of water an ocean but some geographers prefer to divide the water round Antarctica up between the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Indian Ocean. The Southern Ocean is smaller than the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans but it's bigger than the Arctic Ocean at the North Pole. A great many Whales spend a large part of the year there.
  • The Southern Ocean was a large body of water on the southern hemisphere of the planet Manticore. It was connected to Jason Bay through the Silver Gulf. (HH4)
  • The Southern Ocean is the great ocean to the south of Khul, separating the last of the known lands from those as yet uncharted. It is said that in the depths of this ocean the sea itself freezes and life cannot survive.
  • The Southern Ocean is the second largest ocean on the planet Floyd. It stretches around the entire planet, bordering 5 countries: Terra, Jill, Easten, Accentabourne and the Seally Islands. It also has more shipping traffic than any other body of water on Floyd, averaging over 5 million tons of freight and cargo per year, most of it between Jill, the Seally Islands and Easten.
  • The Southern Ocean is the body of water encircling the continent of Antarctica. It is the world's fourth largest ocean and the latest defined, having been accepted by a decision of the International Hydrographic Organization in 2000, though the term has long been traditional among mariners. This change reflects the recent findings in oceanography of the importance of ocean currents. Before that, the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans were considered to extend to Antarctica, which definition is still used by some geographic authorities including the National Geographic Society.
