  • Super Smash Bros. Advance (Japanese: 大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズAdvance Super Smash Bros. Advance), often abbreviated as SSBA, is a crossover fighting game released for the Game Boy Advance as a launch title in 2001 (2004 in the People's Republic of China). It is the second game in the Super Smash Bros. series, following the first game released for Nintendo 64 in 1999. HAL Laboratory developed the game, with Masahiro Sakurai as head of production. The game features characters from Nintendo video game franchises such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon. The stages and gameplay modes make references to, or take their designs from, popular games released by Nintendo. Advance's gameplay system offers an orthodox approach to the fighting game genre with the health bar traditionally seen in most fighting games, rather than a counter that measures damage with percentages like in other SSB games. The game received universal acclaim from the media, as well as awards and acknowledgements from gaming publications. It achieved strong sales upon release, and is one of the Game Boy Advance's best-selling games, with more than 7 million copies sold as of March 10, 2008. It is a launch title for the GBA. It's a port of Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GBA; SSBM was actually released a year after this game.
