The fighter is reasonably maneuverable, and capable of extended patrols of up to 48 hours, but shielding, speed and hull armor are no more than moderate, and in particular, the design's weapons loadout is light, consisting of just a pair of laser cannons. While suitable for police work, the '250 is no match for well-equipped pirates, and after a wing of these starfighters was destroyed by one old Nebulon-B Frigate, the Corellian Defense Force demanded modifications to give the design greater speed and combat capabilities. The modified version proved more successful and was eventually redesignated the HLAF-500.
