Una funzione importante era quella delle fontane munite di lavatoio, una sporgenza ssulla quale le massaie potevano lavare i loro panni, che dopo il lavaggio risultavano ancora più sporchi, e trascorrere delle piacevoli giornate in compagnia parlando del più e del meno e raccontando una marea di cazzate e pettegolezzi.
