The medal was an eight-pointed silver star, suspended from a silver and purple ribbon. It was typically awarded by a Legate or a very senior officer, such as a Royal Navy Captain or an Army or Starfighter Corps Colonel. In awarding the seventeen Stars of Valor earned at the Battle of Shest Minor, Breek Zagrev insisted on personally presenting them all rather than delegating the task to another officer.
