Anaster's mother was the first Woman of the Dead Seed. She followed her son everywhere, stroking his hair or touching his shoulder. She was the only one allowed to approach him and was trailed by her own retinue of women who followed her example. She was sun-darkened and wrinkled and something demonic lit her eyes from within. Toc the Younger feared her the most of anyone in the Tenescowri.
