  • Quaver appears as a loyal (if not overbearing) brown minion in the service of the Fourth Overlord. He first appears when he and Gnarl discover the new Overlord frozen in a block of ice, and stupidly sticks his eyeball to the ice, and pulls his eye out before Gnarl "fires up the dragon". He then replaces his missing eye with a glass one, and coins neverending poems and songs about the Overlord's journey's and achievments. He is considered very annoying by the other minions, so much so that he has been kicked out of the Brown Minion gate. Quaver has been known to use his rattle as a cane. His love of the arts is so great, it is implied that he faints when the Overlord retrieves a harp, and he quickly forms a minion band to sing out praises to the Overlord.
  • Although Quaver is similar to the former jester, he is more sophisticated and more loyal to the Overlord, than the old jester. The other minions show a dislike for Quaver (going so far as kicking him out of the brown minion gate), because of his poems, which are made to honour the Overlord and his journeys. Quaver also sometimes uses his rattle as a cane. Quaver's love of art is so great that when the Overlord finds a harp in the Nordberg Sanctuary, he faints with excitement, or so Gnarl says. After obtaining the harp, Quaver puts a Minion Band together to sing his poems to the Overlord theme song. According to Gnarl, Quaver is also the chef from his comment about wondering what he will make for lunch.
  • Quaver was a mousemaid and, with Crotchet and Queenie, was a member of the Melodious Mice, a trio of mouse singers in the Traveling Thistledown Troupe under the leadership of Hypericum Hadduck Hare. The Melodious Mice opened the performance of the troupe during the Redwall Abbey feast which celebrated the last day of Autumn. The mice were great singers and had performed at many harvest fairs and twice at banquets.
