- Lothlann (Sindarin: Blüteland) war eine große Ebene im Ersten Zeitalter, im Westen begrenzt von Ard-galen, (auch Anfauglith genannt) im Süden von Maedhros’ Mark und im Norden von den Ered Engrin. Lothlann war ein weites, leeres Land und wurde während der Belagerung Angbands von der Reiterei des Hauses Feanor überwacht. Morgoth konnte dadurch keine Ausfälle nach Ost-Beleriand planen oder gar ausführen. Während der Dagor Bragollach (auch Schlacht des Jähen Feuers) wurde Lothlann von den Heeren Morgoths überrannt, denn Glaurung erschien dort und verwüstete das Land zwischen den Quellflüssen des Gelion. Nach dieser Zeit wurde die Ebene vermutlich als ein Teil von Anfauglith (Ard-galen) angesehen.

- Lothlann lay to the northeast of Beleriand, bordered on the south by the March of Maedhros. Its eastern edge drew up to the Blue Mountains north of Mount Rerir, and in the west it bordered on the highlands of Dorthonion and, just north of this, the plain of Ard-galen after the Dagor Bragollach. During most of the First Age, Lothlann was watched over by light cavalry under the command of the Sons of Fëanor, mainly Maglor and Maedhros. During the Wars of Beleriand, Orcs and other fell beasts crossed Lothlann in order to assault East Beleriand. Ultimately, Lothlann was drowned by the Great Western Sea at the end of the First Age as a result of the War of Wrath.[citation needed]
- Lothlann earned his nickname 'the Brave' at the Battle of the Creaking Yew. Here he took up the battle banner from the slain Athryn the Strong when the Elves were in desperate battle against the Skaven. When the Elves saw the banner rise again with Lothlann bravely galloping among the foe hewing left and right, they surged forward like an irresistible tide. Thus they utterly defeated the ratmen, scattering them in headlong rout through the forest to become the prey of wild beasts during the hungry winter that year. Since then Lothlann has had the honour of bearing the sacred banner of Athel Loren.[1a]
