  • Jerome Paul "Boomer" Groom (August 15, 1929 – February 29, 2008) was a professional American football defensive tackle/linebacker/center in the National Football League. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, he graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines. He went to one Pro Bowl during his 5-year career with the Chicago Cardinals. He played college football at Notre Dame, where he was an All-American. Groom later served as a color commentator for the Denver Broncos' radio broadcasts in their inaugural AFL season in 1960. In 1994 he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He died at age 78 in Sarasota, Florida.
