  • I don't agree that the Republican Party is a backward-thinking party, as this article implies. Just because conservatives (and I don't ONLY mean Republicans, as not ALL Republicans are true conservatives) don't embrace such "forward-thinking" ideas as redistribution of the wealth and other "progressive" thinking doesn't mean that we're backward. What we DO (or at least SHOULD) embrace are sound economic principles in which taxes are cut to a bare minimum, government shrinks exponentially, and people buck up and take responsbility for their own lives, vs. Uncle Sam and the nanny state doing it for them.

I admit that the Republicans didn't completely deliver on cutting taxes and government spending as much as they promised, and they tried to make nice with the other guys, which only resulted in them getting their hands bitten. Their lack of leadership when they were in the driver's seat was astounding and disgusting, and it's why they lost their leadership position. Please forgive me if I turned too political in my post for your tastes, but someone trying to push the idea that Republicans are stuck in yesterday cannot go unanswered. Eric Thomson
