The X-Gene has been a common occurrence in human popularity, and their species seems to grow in population. The Government has decided that these so called "mutants" have the ability to harm humans if they choose so. The mutant threat Magneto only confirms that. Magneto's motives into killing hundreds of innocent humans has yet to be known, but the Government has tried multiple times to find out, which only resulted to even more innocence being killed. The onslaughts caused by the mutants only proven to be worse, so the Government arranged a registration act for the mutants, that they surrender to the Government, or they get killed.
Avengers
The Avengers were assembled by S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Government to protect the humans from the mutants who threaten to kill them. The Avengers has also faced other threats like the Red Skull and Crossbones. They soon would fight the X-Men for the protection of the people.
X-Men
The X-Men were a group of mutants lead by Professor Charles Xavier. The mutants were rejected by the people, thus making Charles gather an team of young mutants, to protect the humans, and prove that mutants aren't a threat. They soon found out about the Registration Act, and some surrendered to the Government, but most of them fought for their freedom, leading to a fight between the Avengers and the X-Men.
Cloak & Dagger
Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen were both runaway teenagers with mutant powers. Coincidentally, their powers counter and balance each other, which has proven to be great in combat. Tyrone has the power of the Darkforce, and forming and projecting energy daggers. Tandy has the power of the Lightforce, which is simply too bright and powerful to expose, forcing Tandy to wear a cloak to hide the blinding light. They would eventually surrender to the Government, but was later freed by the X-Men, and joined them. Tandy tragically dies in the fight. Tyrone was recruited to the New Mutants, where he kept Tandy's cloak with him, and he would eventually wear the cloak afterwards, changing the cloak's aura to a black light.
Spider-Woman

- Jessica Drew was an agent working for Hydra. She was sent on a mission by Madame Hydra to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D. and pose as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. As a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, she was assigned to track down Crossbones and his relations to Hydra, and also to find out his real identity. After tracking down Crossbones, it was revealed that Crossbones was actually Jessica's father, Jonathan Drew, who was presumably dead when Jessica was little. The explanation for this was that Jonathan survived, and Hydra was able to heal him, but he got a bone dislocation in the process, hence the name. Jessica felt betrayed, and left Hydra and her father to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. She fought with the Avengers.
