  • Gateside Gardens II

  • Gateside Gardens II is a 7 storey deck access block in the Fernhill scheme in Springburn, Glasgow. Approved in 1966, construction was carried out by D.L., the same company who would go on to build other deck access blocks in the city. The building accomodated residents in maisonettes as opposed to flats. The estate suffered many problems such as crime, drugs and dampness and the whole scheme was derelict by 1989. However, unlike the Hutchesontown Area E estate which had similar troubles, the decision was made to retain the Fernhill scheme and the block was refurbished with a pitched roof added, a modernisation of the interior and insulated cladding applied to the walls.
