  • The Godzilla Heisei era lasted from 1984 to 1995. The Godzilla Heisei era was also nicknamed the "VS Series" (VSシリーズBuiesu shirīzu?, lit. Versus series) in Japan, due to the word VS (Buiesu) being featured in most of the films' titles. The Heisei era of Godzilla films follow a different continuity from the Showa films, ignoring every movie except the original 1954 Godzilla. * The Return of Godzilla * Godzilla vs. Biollante * Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah * Godzilla vs. Mothra * Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla 2 * Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla * Godzilla vs. Destoroyah
  • The Heisei era is a term used to identify the current political era of Japan. The Heisei series is named after the political Heisei era in Japan, which started in 1989 with the ascension of Emperor Akihito to the throne, and continues to this day. Technically, the Millennium and Legendary series Godzilla films are also part of the Heisei era due to being released during the political Heisei period, but are considered to be separate series from the Heisei series due to coming after hiatuses in the Godzilla franchise. __TOC__
  • Heisei Era refers to the timeline in the original Fushigi Yuugi series. This is the era when Miaka and Yui went into the Shijintenshisho and summoning their respective Gods Suzaku and Seiryuu. This is also the era when the Priestess of Byakko reunited with Tatara in the afterlife and her story being told by Toki to Keisuke and Tetsuya.
  • The Heisei Era is the current period of Japanese History which started in 1989 after the death of Emperor Hirohito and the succession of his son Akihito to the throne. It is also used as a fan term for tokusatsu shows and movies that were released from the 1990s to present day. In the cases of some franchises, the exact date of when it's Heisei era occurred may vary due to the hiatus of a franchise or a change of style or direction. (Ex. Godzilla films post-2000 are called the Millennium Era films and have little to no connections to the Heisei films).

Other major kaiju franchises have not followed this convention despite having similar hiatuses; for example, Gamera: The Brave is considered to be a part of the Heisei series, despite being released seven years after the previous film, Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris. __TOC__

Heisei era started in December 1989 and is still ongoing as of 2015. It's named after Emperor Akihito, grandson of Emperor Taishou (from the era where Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden took place) and son of Emperor Showa (from the times where Fushigi Yuugi Byakko Ibun happened). It's marked by both the rapid growth of Japanese economy as well as its military regrowth, but also by the problems coming from recession, political crisis and several earthquakes.
