| abstract | - Flambeau (believed born some time around 715 A.D., last seen in 820 A.D.) was a militant magus whose family was killed during a Moorish invasion of their holdings and whose pater was later killed by Moorish sorcerors along with the local Christian lord he served in the beginning of the Reconquista. Flambeau was present at the time and barely escaped with his life. He swore to avenge his pater against the Sorcerors and others of their ilk. Flambeau's pater, Laberius, was a member of the Cult of Mithras. Flambeau, however, was an ardent Christian and, even during his apprenticeship, strived to modify incantations to remove reference to pagan gods. Although he would accept worshipers of what he called the old gods as allies, including into his house, he continually attempted to convert them to Christianity. Flambeau took a large part in recruiting new magi into the budding Order of Hermes, by personality and diplomacy as well as by threat and combat prowess. It was at Flambeau's insistence that Wizard War was included within the Code of Hermes itself, to ensure that the sahirs still living would not be able to avoid his wrath by joining the Order.
