  • Lao Huang (Japanese: ラオ, Rao; English dub: /ˈlaʊ ˈhwæŋ/) is one of the eight main playable characters in Xenoblade Chronicles X. He is the leader of the Pathfinder Team Belisarda (English dub: /ˌbɛl.ᵻˈsɑː(r).də/) of the private military organization BLADE. Lao has been Doug's comrade-in-arms since their days in the United States Army. He has a mutual deep relationship with Lin, who shares a similar past.

He is playable in the latter on Versus Mode by pressing B button on Alfred for more than 2 seconds. In the first opening movie of Garou: Mark of the Wolves, he was seen beaten by Terry Bogard. After losing those fights, Lao joins Bonne Jenet's Lillien Knights.
  • The Lao Dynasty, or The Kingdom of Lao is a province in Chin, which was ruled by Lao Ma in secrecy, when her husband became to ill to rule. It is unknown who ruled the Kingdom of Lao after Lao Ma's death. The Lao Dynasty covers one half of Chin, whilst the other half is covered by the Ming Dynasty.
  • An old friend of MacLeod's, who called him 'Grandfather Lao'. He lived at the Buddhist retreat in Seacouver, and gave advice to many, including MacLeod, whose visits he looked forward to, and whose questions he enjoyed. On their last visit, Lao told Duncan he had a feeling it would indeed be their last, but MacLeod should not sad, for only Lao's body would be gone, and perhaps he would return as a carp in the compound's pond...and perhaps MacLeod should avoid eating any fish, "...just in case."
