It is written by Indra in the Uchiha Codex, that Ashura used this technique to heal himself continuously. Indra fascinated by this technique recorded its workings and use within the codex explaining that in order to achieve this ability without injecting the cells of a Senju one must have astute chakra control and be able to supply a continuous amount of physical chakra to their own cells to keep a constant rate of vitalization and production of new cells without drastically changing the cell cycle to hurt the user.
