DUBBING CHANGES
  • *The dubbed version of this episode is one of the more confusing of the series, partially because the original Japanese version was so enigmatic, with so many open questions being left hanging that would never be picked up on. **The dub largely omits the specific concern that is plaguing Kari—the idea that she is not as strong as Tai—and just plays it as a fear of not being strong enough in general. This leaves the brief vision she has of her and her brother as something of a non-sequitur in the dub. **Building upon that omission, when T.K. goes looking for Kari after class, the Japanese version has him angry at her for comparing herself to her brother. The dub chooses to take the relationship between the characters a bit further, by having T.K. tell her he "cares too much about her" to let her be taken away. **Precisely what was really going on with the "Scubamon" is left unclear: were they actually captured by the Digimon Emperor, or was it all part of their ruse to enthrall Kari? The dub essentially opts for the latter explanation , stating the creatures are revolting against their undersea master and that they want Kari to lead them; the Digimon Emperor does not appear to have played any role in this, and they have merely used his trappings to dupe Kari into aiding them. In the Japanese version, on the other hand, the Emperor was responsible: the creatures explain that they have been mesmerized by the Dark Spirals into "worshiping a new god" , and that they have called upon Kari to be their "bride", so that they can procreate with her and create legions to battle him. When she refuses, they return to their "old god" beneath the sea. *The Japanese version of this episode features a lot of silence, and a generally bleak, morose tone; the dubbed version fights back against this, filling nearly every moment of this silence with characters' thoughts and random background chatter and jokes to an extent far beyond the show's normal level of added dialogue. *In the original episode, when Kari attempts to free the Scubamon in the cave, her image song Holy Light is played in the background. *A moment when some Scubamon are killed by Airdramon's attack is removed from the English dub.
CONTINUITY ERRORS
  • *Gatomon digivolves to Angewomon but the DigiDestined lost that power when they gave up their Crests between seasons 1 and 2.
ANIMATION ERRORS
  • *When Kari sees a flashback of Tai and herself in the school corridor, Tai's black armband appears to be missing. *In a distant shot of Gatomon dozing off in the tree near the school, her ears are completely pink. *In a close-up version of the aforementioned shot, when holding her paws together, Gatomon appears to have four claws on her left paw instead of three. *Gatomon's tail ring can be seen during digivolution, even though she lost it. This is a result of using the same digivolution sequence from the first series.

They assemble a team of scientists of all sorts to analyze the message and discover what exactly it means. Rather than being a story about aliens, however, Lem's novel is about the process of scientific analysis itself. A critique of the idea of objective science, the book's characters are led and misled by their own biases and petty dislikes rather than any actual scientific data.
