  • Courtesans live charmed lives, floating socially above the peasantry like a cloud above the plains. Few Kingdoms have never had courtesans to attend to the nobility’s desire for a pretty face, witty tongue, and often baser talents. The Balseraphs however utilized courtesans offensively throughout the Age of Rebirth, as covert information gatherers initially. A smile would often get them past a lonely border guard, and a bit more could earn entrance to the capital. Later they would find ways to make themselves much more useful, acting as a camp follower, then killing important enemy figures and disappearing into the night.
  • Courtesans were woman prostitute, especially one whose clients were members of men of high social standing. In the Burning Sands enslaved women were forced to become courtesans. In Rokugan this practice walked the line of dishonor and disgrace.
  • Courtesan (also translated as "Private Princess") is one of the many role-playing subclasses in Elder Tale.
  • Courtesan is a generic name for characters found in both games. Your first encounter with courtesans in Baldur's Gate is likely to be with a pair who stand outside Feldepost's Inn in Beregost when you first approach the inn. After a brief conversation (or not), they will leave their initial positions and wander about the area. Although they do not initiate dialog, their audio greetings will play whenever you pass closely. These two courtesans play no role in the game except to provide a minute or two of entertainment. Which is probably very similar to, but much kinder than, what they have to say about you.
  • Gifted in etiquette and guile, courtesans move from one benefactor to the next, infiltrating social circles to spy on their enemies…and just as often their allies. Betrayal is their past time, victims played like the fine chords of a harp. At times courtesans serve as high-priced assassins, though they prefer to ruin foes without resorting to violence. However, once blades are drawn, they prove to be devious combatants, sowing discord among foes and leveraging weaknesses to lure foes to their doom. Few can say whose side a courtesan truly belongs to, or what really drives their plays for power – those who know have long since fallen silent to blade or blackmail.

Few can say whose side a courtesan truly belongs to, or what really drives their plays for power – those who know have long since fallen silent to blade or blackmail. Courtesans weather the inevitable questioning of moral character with poise, an unreadable veil across their face as they plan their next scheme. They could be the recently freed servant of a deposed king, a reluctant prisoner of war seeking to return home, a worldly entrepreneur secretly blackmailed into assisting the throne, or a gifted dancer sent to kill the marquis oppressing your people. This class can be found in the Experts v3.5 supplement by Skirmisher Publishing. In Eberron courtesans would likely come from the courts of the Five Nations, from Korth, Fairhaven, Wroat, Flamekeep, or Thronehold. But they could come from other major cities such as Sharn as well. Anywhere, there is a lot of power and money. They could come from other courts as well, even Rhukaan Draal or the Great Crag. A clever manipulator can make their way anywhere there are people and heirarchies to maneuver among.

In Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, you will find a few courtesans in the Tankard Tree in Saradush at night. They will ask you if you want to go on a date with them. Really though they are vampires in disguise who, rather than take you on a date, will take you to the Saradush old prison where a vampire ambush will be awaiting.
