A resident of Brixton, from 1891 he was a Moderate Party member of the London School Board, representing the Lambeth West Division. He was active in the Conservative Party, and was the party's secretary in the Brixton constituency for 15 years. He was a prominent freemason, and was Worshipful Master of the London School Board Lodge. He died of influenza in 1900, aged 54.
