The tools they are equipped with were chosen to be functional, but also easily adapted into weapons when the situation calls for it. In an interesting case of who came first, the Derriphan-class was actually constructed before the Labor Lord. The droids were then set to work building the first Labor Lord which, once operational, took control of them and established the relationship seen in all subsequent generations of the two models.
