| abstract | - The Chancellor of the Klingon High Council was the Klingon head of government and the de facto head of the Klingon Empire. The chancellor replaced the emperor as the ruler of the Empire in the mid-21st century. The chancellor was protected at all times by the Yan-Isleth. (DS9: "Apocalypse Rising") However, many chancellors such as Gowron and Martok were known to take command of Klingon Defense Force vessels and lead attacks personally; Gowron commanded the IKS Bortas as Chancellor and Martok led Klingon forces in the Battle of Cardassia. (TNG: "Redemption" ; DS9: "What You Leave Behind") The concept of the Klingon Empire having a chancellor was introduced in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country before being reused in several episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Enterprise, as well as a singular reference in VOY: "Flashback". * Unnamed Chancellor (c. 2153 (ENT: "The Expanse") While played by different actors, these unnamed chancellors had similar cranial ridges and hair. It is possible production crew intended for them to be the same person. Additionally, it is possible that one (or both) of these chancellors were M'Rek, since they were not addressed by name.

* Azetbur (2293 onward) Gorkon and Azetbur were, politically, the most influential Klingon figures depicted in the whole of Star Trek: The Original Series and the first six TOS-era films. (Star Trek Monthly issue 2, pp. 16)

* Martok (2375 onward) Non-canon sources (novels The Art of the Impossible, Serpents Among the Ruins, and Harbinger) list other chancellors such as Sturka, Kaarg, Ditagh, and Kravokh. The computer game Star Trek Online depicts Martok being supposedly killed in 2393 by a councilor called J'mpok, who then advanced to take the position of chancellor.
