| abstract | - We'd like to tip the Whispers hat to Jane Potemra, 87, of Elizabeth Township. After hearing about a proposal by Allegheny County Councilman Nick Futules to waive fees for volunteer firefighters at county golf courses, ski slopes and swimming pools, Potemra had an idea. She is allocating money in her will to be distributed to her local volunteer fire companies and called our offices to encourage others to do the same. If enough people did that, she reasoned, the volunteers who dedicate so much time and risk their lives to helping others wouldn't have to worry about paying such fees no matter what the future state of the county's finances. Such generosity is admirable.
