Spoilers below: By the end of the game, it's revealed that the Colossi were all seals created by Emon's predecessors to seal away the evil entity in the forbidden lands. However due to Wander killing the Colossi, the dark energy seeped into his body corrupting him. Soon he became a vessel for Dormin to return once more before being stopped by Emon. When possessed by Dormin, Wander takes the form of a giant dark Minotaur with spider appendages growing from it's back.
