  • The 837th Air Division (837th AD) is an inactive United States Air Force organization. Its last assignment was with Tactical Air Command, assigned to Ninth Air Force, being stationed at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina. It was inactivated on February 1, 1963. The unit was an intermediate command echelon of Tactical Air Command, providing command and control of tactical visual, electronic, and weather reconnaissance wings and organizations between January 1958 – February 1963. Between March 1958 and June 1959, the division operated the USAF Advanced Flying Training School, Tactical Reconnaissance. Subordinate units flew reconnaissance missions during the Cuban missile crisis of 1962. Inactivated as a result of budget reductions, its units being consolidated directly into Ninth Air Force.
