- Captain Henry Avery, also known as Henry Every, was an English pirate, famous for the largest heist in the 1600s and become a wanted man to the world. Making his way to Libertalia, Avery and his group, the Founders, settled and began their own society until Avery's paranoia turned him into an enemy. His treasure and expedition would be followed by other treasure hunters in the years, starting with Cassandra Morgan, whose children, Samuel and Nathan Drake, picked up and finished it.

(TV: The Smugglers) In 1699, Captain Avery was returning home with Mughal treasure. Midjourney, the Fancy encountered a Siren who began taking the crew away after marking them with a black spot. (WC: Prequel (The Curse of the Black Spot)) Unknown to him, his son had stowed away on the ship. His son had fallen ill with typhoid fever (incurable in the 1690s) and had been marked by the siren but not yet taken due to his hiding place onboard. The Eleventh Doctor came aboard Fancy during this crisis and investigated the Siren. He identified Avery's treasure as allowing the Siren to attack and told Avery it must be thrown overboard. Avery did so, but kept one crown. It allowed the Siren to take his son. He realised how possessed he was by greed and was forced to reassess what he valued. When the Doctor realised that the Siren was in fact the automated doctor of an alien spacecraft, Avery let himself be taken to her hospital in order to care for his son and crew. The Doctor saw it was important to send the ship back into space, and Toby would soon die of his fever if he left the ship. Avery decided to stay with Toby. He, with his crew from Fancy and his son, flew the spaceship away from Earth towards the Dog Star. (TV: The Curse of the Black Spot) Some time later, the Doctor recruited Avery to help him with an attack on Demon's Run to rescue Amy Pond. Avery, Toby, and his crew boarded the ship of Madame Kovarian during the attack and subdued its crew, preventing her escape. (TV: A Good Man Goes to War) Captain Samuel Pike, who used to work for Avery, led a band of ex-Fancy crew in a search for Avery's treasure. They ran across the First Doctor. (TV: The Smugglers)

Making his way to Libertalia, Avery and his group, the Founders, settled and began their own society until Avery's paranoia turned him into an enemy. His treasure and expedition would be followed by other treasure hunters in the years, starting with Cassandra Morgan, whose children, Samuel and Nathan Drake, picked up and finished it. While Avery never makes a physical appearance within the game, outside of his skeletal corpse, his influence can be felt in nearly every area that Nathan and Samuel Drake explore to find his treasure, with the legends surrounding the pirate captain serving as inspiration for other greedy individuals, specifically Rafe Adler and Nadine Ross, to locate his stolen fortune to satisfy their own designs and desires.

L'un de ses hommes, McGrath, se blessa et tenta de combattre la créature mais fut tout de même emmené. Peu après, les pirates trouvèrent le Onzième Docteur, Amy Pond et Rory Williams et les prirent pour des clandestins. Amy blessa Dancer, qui fut emmené par la Sirène. Ils se réfugièrent tous dans la réserve, où le capitaine trouva son fils, Toby, qui s'était embarqué clandestinement suite à la mort de sa mer. Il portait la marque noire, étant atteint de la fièvre typhoïde. Le Docteur montra à Avery son vaisseau, le TARDIS, mais celui-ci ne détecta pas la mer ni le Fancy et se dématérialisa sans eux. Le Docteur comprit que la Sirène se servait des reflets pour apparaître et ordonna au capitaine de jeter son trésor. Avery garda cependant une couronne, dont la Sirène se servit pour apparaître et emporta Toby. Henry comprit alors à quel point l'avarice s'était emparée de lui. Il accepta de se marquer en se coupant pour retrouver son fils, tout comme Amy et le Docteur pour retrouvé Rory, emporté lui aussi par la Sirène (que le Docteur soupçonnait d'être un système médical automatisé. Ils se retrouvèrent tous les trois sur le même plan mais dans un autre univers, sur un vaisseau spatial d'une espèce inconnue dont l'équipage avait succombé à une maladie. Le Docteur comprit qu'il fallait renvoyer le vaisseau dans l'espace, mais Toby finirait par mourir sans les soins de la Sirène. Avery décida de rester et de piloter ce vaisseau avec son équipage. Amy et le Docteur emmenèrent Rory dans le TARDIS pour réanimer Rory, tandis qu'Avery emmenait le vaisseau vers l'étoile Sirius (DW: The Curse of the Black Spot). Plus tard, le Docteur recruta Avery pour l'aider à attaquer la Retraite du Démon, où Amy était retenue prisonnière. Avery, son équipage et Toby abordèrent le vaisseau de Madame Kovarian pour l'empêcher de fuir (DW: A Good Man Goes to War).
