  • A Blood Bond is a process wherein the abilities of a Force-imbued object can only be used by someone it has been bonded to. Someone who is not bonded to an object that has a Blood Bond on it will find themselves unable to access it. The process quite literally uses a subject’s blood as the means to create this bond. With the Force, the blood and the object are merged together, using the physical bond to create a spiritual one between the subject and the object. From that point onward the object will only recognize who it has been bonded to even once the blood has been washed off. Forcefully breaking a Blood Bond is extremely difficult and more than likely will result in the destruction of the object before the bond is broken. The Blood Bond stays in place even after the person it has been bonded to dies since it’s connected on a spiritual level. There are only two known ways to get around this limitation besides trying to break the bond outright. The first is to destroy the spirit of the person the object is bound to, which will nullify the bond without harm to the object. The second is to create another Blood Bond on the object, allowing another person to use the object. This carries with it certain limitations, however, as the effectiveness of successive Blood Bonds are not as effective as the first bond. In other words, if an object has multiple bonds on it, the primary person it has been bonded to will have priority over how the object is used and it will remain that way until the bond is broken. Afterwards the next person it was bonded to will have priority and so forth. The origins of this power are unknown, but it’s speculated that it may have come from the Witches of Dathomir since they use a similar power known as Blood Trail. It saw extensive use by the Darksiders Sivter and Arksis Nan, mostly in conjunction with the Cult of Shadow’s Korriban Crystals towards the end of the War of Darkness. This revealed a secondary use for the power; since Blood Bonding connected the spirit of a subject with an object, the reverse was also true, meaning that Dark Side objects bonded to Jedi could potentially corrupt them.
