When Ann wrote the first edition of the The Essential Guide to Alien Species, her friend, Star Wars writer Rich Handley, generously assisted her with research and brainstorming. When the second edition came along, she was a frantic new mother, so she enlisted the aid of her friend, the very knowledgeable Helen Keier, to co-author the updated version. Another person with the same name also lived in the Star Wars universe. The in-universe one received her data from the Senior Anthropologist Mammon Hoole.
