  • Henry Robert Barge (1856- 12 January 1835) was a school teacher and local politician active in the Poplar and Wanstead areas. Born in Birmingham, he moved to Poplar in London where he worked as a school master for 40 years, retiring in 1917. He was a member of Poplar Borough Council, and served as Mayor of Poplar in 1907-08. On retirement he moved to Wanstead in the Essex suburbs of London, and became a member of the Wanstead Urban District Council. He was chairman of the council for two years, and was a member of the body and its successor, the Wanstead and Woodford UDC, until his death.
