  • Anarion was the youngest son of Elendil who, setting sail with his father and brother, Isildur, left the lands of Numenor and arrived in Middle-Earth. In Minas Anor (Minas Tirith) was the house of Anarion, and in Minas Ithil (Minas Morgul, as it became) was the house of Isildur. Both of them ruled Gondor, while their father ruled Arnor and was the High King of both kingdoms, and their thrones were set side by side in the Great Hall of Osgiliath. Anarion was entrusted two of the Palantir, Seeing Stones, one of which was kept at Osgiliath and the other in Minas Anor. Anarion spent many bitter years defending Osgiliath against Sauron. He was killed in the 7-year siege on Barad-dûr by a catapult where the Last Alliance finally defeated Sauron.
