  • Basic Trope: A person with high defense but low attack. * Straight: Barry is known as a shield to block enemies, but he can never defeat them. * Exaggerated: Barry can block a huge onslaught of missiles, but he can't hurt a blade of grass. * Justified: Barry practices a combat discipline that is more concerned with keeping its practitioners alive than attacking opponents. * Alternatively, Barry is a Made of Iron Gentle Giant who doesn't like to hurt people, and so he isn't very good at it. * Or, he can do magic, but only one which creates deflector shields. * Inverted: Glass Cannon * Subverted: Barry isn't very quick, but his indestructability wears down his enemies and lets him finish them easily. * Double Subverted: His enemies catch on. * Parodied: Barry has the power to transform into a wall with a face. * Only a Flesh Wound * Deconstructed: The protagonists are Barry, Jack, Chim-Chim the Talking Ape, Rick, and Rin, but no real offensive capability. None of them die, but Emperor Evulz dismisses them and goes on to conquer the world without singling them out for punishment. Nothing he can do can hurt them, but they can't really affect his campaign of conquest in any meaningful way. * Reconstructed: Sure they can. With them guarding a critical chokepoint to the last free city, Emperor Evulz's supply train eventually wears thin and forces him to retreat, giving the armies of the Republic time to regroup and reorganize. * Zig Zagged: Barry is a Made of Iron Gentle Giant who doesn't like to hurt people, and so isn't very good at it. Except it turns out that he actually is good at it and is, in fact, a Lightning Bruiser, but he holds back when attacking. Also, he can shed his armor to increase his speed even more, but becomes a Glass Cannon instead. On the other hand he can cast a spell that causes all the enemies to aim at him, by sacrificing his attack power, but he's so fast he can dodge all their attacks anyway. But, he can again sacrifice his speed to create an impenetrable shield. Ending with the fact that all the attacks he absorbed (both physical and magical) can be shot out as a Wave Motion Gun of all the accumulated energy. * Averted: Barry (and everyone else) are either the Jack of All Stats, Glass Cannon, Lightning Bruiser, etc. but not the Stone Wall. * Enforced: ??? * Lampshaded: "Why Won't You Die??" * Invoked: ??? * Defied: Barry can dish out as much punishment as he can take. * Exploited: Barry uses his sheer toughness to distract the enemy, so the rest of his team can get into the secret facility. * Barry goes in first, to draw out the enemy, allowing Chad to take them out, without endangering himself. * Discussed: "Good luck killing Barry. The damn guy may as well be Made of Iron." * Conversed: ??? Back to Stone Wall. Except, no you won't, because Barry is in the way.
