The Band was formed by the three members in early April 2008. Following the dissolution of the previous year's 7th form band, Le Tigre, Salmon and Phantom formed a band to perform at the first student led assembly of 2008. Their first performance, Blink 182's "All The Small Things", quickly became a school anthem. Revelling in the success of their first performance, EK1 went on to a sellout second performance, playing "Say It Aint So", a cover of Weezer's 1994 singalong anthem, to a packed assembly hall. Following their second gig, the band began a slight downward spiral. Drugs, women and fame proved to be a near fatal cocktail for these talented musicians, who are currently on a brief hiatus. However, with the help of several other bands from the Taupo community, including Sunny Sundays, Apnia and Midnight Sun (who opened for EK1 in their second gig), EK1 have worked through this strugle, and have several other performances planned for 2008.
