  • Toscan 8-Q Fighter
rdfs:comment
  • The Toscan 8-Q Fighter was originally developed by Shobquix Yards as one of its few production fighters. The similarities of its cockpit to the Y-wing is not a coincidence as it used a Koensayr design. The Toscan would, in turn, help to contribute to the design of Koensayr’s venerable Y-wing. The original Toscan 8-Q was only armed with two nose-mounted laser cannons and, while popular on the fringe, was soon phased out by Shobquix as more advanced designs came into use. This particular version can no longer be bought new.

abstract
  • The Toscan 8-Q Fighter was originally developed by Shobquix Yards as one of its few production fighters. The similarities of its cockpit to the Y-wing is not a coincidence as it used a Koensayr design. The Toscan would, in turn, help to contribute to the design of Koensayr’s venerable Y-wing. The original Toscan 8-Q was only armed with two nose-mounted laser cannons and, while popular on the fringe, was soon phased out by Shobquix as more advanced designs came into use. This particular version can no longer be bought new. The Toscan Fighter would unexpectedly receive an update from Sienar Fleet Systems, who purchased the design from Shobquix while they were still in the developmental phase of designing space superiority fighters for the Imperial Navy. Sienar was able to vastly upgrade the fighter, with the most noticeable difference being its much improved armament. The improved Toscan never caught on with Imperial Command, who favored the TIE series over more conventional designs. As such the Toscan saw very limited use before it was all but forgotten as Sienar continued to crank out one TIE design after another. One notable exception was Admiral Jer Roviditian who saw potential in the fighter and had a squadron of them placed aboard his Star Destroyer, the Kismet. The improved Toscan is slower and less maneuverable than the original X-wing, but it has superior shielding and firepower that makes it overall tougher. It can also easily outmaneuver the B-wing starfighter. Innumerable independent governments and organizations still use both versions of the Toscan.
