  • The World of Warcraft Bestiary (or, incorrectly, "Beastiary") initially was the first teaser web site for World of Warcraft on the Blizzard web site. It eventually turned into the Town Hall and the "bestiary" pages were only linked from pages therein. Each of the pages of the bestiary showed an animated sequence of monster with sound and a short bit of lore. Most of the mobs were from Alliance zones, since those were implemented earlier than much of the Horde zones.
  • __TOC__ The following is a list of enemies one may encounter. Note that they are grouped according to ranger's favored enemies. There are no (nonmagical) beasts, fey, giants, half-elves, halflings or monstrous humanoids as non-summon enemies in the game.

  • A bestiary is usually a volume containing information on different creatures, either living or mythical, depending on the focus of the treatise. In The Witcher, bestiary entries are acquired through listening to folktales and reading books. Once acquired, they can be found in the Journal. These entries describe the various monsters that Geralt meets or learns about during the course of his travels, including their appearance, primary characteristics and . In this wiki, those entries can be found in category.

  • A bestiary is a compendium of monsters. Most games in the Neptunia series contain a bestiary that registers and lists enemies the player encounters along the game.
  • Bestiary: Each of these books offers lore about a single combination of creature origin and type, such as fey humanoids. When you fail a monster knowledge check related to a creature with this origin and type, you can reroll the check by spending one hour studying the bestiary. You must use the second result.

Description
  • Recently a much stronger version of the green zombie appeared near the center of Fairview; the Green Muscle Zombie. They look about the same as a Purple Zombie but pack a much heavier punch. They are rumored to be more common than the the fat green and the long armed green zombie, but carry less valuable items with them in comparison. Don't confuse them with normal green zombies, as they look similar, but they are darker and the power difference is enormous. An easy way to discern between Normal Greens and Muscles Greens is the crest running down the middle of their head . If you see this, you're in for a fight.
  • A cousin to the Behemoth and the archetype of all male mutants, the Titan is much stronger than anything before it. One hit is often all it takes for the Titan's mighty arms to kill anyone unfortunate enough to be within reach. The virus, mixed with a rare gene, changed the zombie's bones into something stronger than a concrete wall. This effectively makes the Titan a living tank, capable of taking many punishing hits before it goes down. In Greek mythology, its namesakes waged war with the Greek gods, and almost won. Survivors, unfortunately, are not gods. Fight it if you think you can. If you can't, just RUN.
  • Slightly weaker than the male fat zombie. Fat zombies are very resistant to knockback and weak hits such as a non-critical chainsaw or knife hit won't interrupt its attacks nor be able to stop them once they're coming for you. They are even more ravenous in their un-lives.
  • A highly dangerous infected found in the end zone. Beware of the large explosion when fighting off this beast.
  • Some survivors find the existence of a Burning Mother mutation funny and somewhat ironic...until they are forced to engage one in combat. While still slow and easy to outmaneuver, her ranged attacks are deadly for any survivor who loses focus even for the smallest amount of time.
  • Some humans were seemingly caught naked while being transformed from infection into the monsters they now are. Many speculate that these undead females were once call-girls and prostitutes who were still on duty when the epidemic struck, or simply women who were taking showers. Like Sodom and Gomorrah before it, Fairview is burning for all its sins. Sick parodies of the human ideals of beauty, these undead women walk about the familiar streets they once patrolled so very long ago.
  • These mutants are generally thought to be the immature form of the larger Bloats around Precinct 13 and Fort Pastor. Like their larger 'relatives', they are fat, slow, and have a low damage threshold. Small Bloats are also volatile walking bombs; they explode upon death and release a blast of gastric acid and bone shards that can mortally wound any survivor who comes within the blast radius. Obviously, using melee against these beasts is not a wise decision, unless the blows are sparse and followed by a bullet.
  • A rare mutant species, somewhat similar to a Longarm, that briefly sprang up in the newly-accessed black zones regions around Halloween. At the time that these mutants were encountered, very little was known about them, other than that they apparently possessed high health points and always inflicted lethal damage. One of the few, albeit trivial, details initially obtained about it was that it appeared to resemble the "Slenderman"—a mythical monster popularized by the pre-outbreak world's "Creepypasta" internet culture. Further research was recently conducted on a preserved sample of flesh, taken from the brain of a dead Slenderman. Analysis revealed a shocking phenomenon that seemed impossible, but was confirmed by several former neurologists and psychologists in the outposts. It appears that these mutants were actually individuals who had previously been fans of the Slenderman mythos on the internet, prior to being infected in the outbreak. This was corroborated by the fact that several former internet-surfers were able to identify some of these mutants as infected people who had been popular writers of the myth online. Somehow, the Nerotonin-4 virus identified the Slenderman in these individuals' subconscious, and mutated their body into a replica of the monster.
  • Also known as "The Destroying Angel," the Wraith is the archetype of all female mutants. Wraiths are perhaps the least mentally affected by the mutations of Nerotonin-4, allowing them to retain their premortem mental acuity. Because their tentacles extend enough to handle all combat distances, survivors need a massive amount of firepower, speed, endurance, and strategy to defeat this eerie reminder of humanity’s best.
  • The weaker one of the two purple zombies, recognizable mostly by its size. Female purple zombies deal significantly more damage than normal zombies but have slightly shorter reach. Purple zombies are believed to be burned, as they are often found in large bonfire piles.
  • Not long after the discovery of the Wasteland, stories of a large ungodly hound lurking around the desert-like environment emerged. Scientists fled from the Secronom Bunker to the Wasteland to learn more about this mysterious beast, but only a few made it back to report their findings. One scientist described it as a Titan-like hound with skin so red it resembled the Devil himself, which gave the monster it's nickname the Devil Hound. It is said that this is the first recorded sighting of the bone mutation acting as a mainly offensive trait, rather than a defensive one. Continued research on the Devil Hound has shown it uses it's exposed vertebrae, spiked tail, and massive claws to efficiently hunt and kill its prey.
  • In the earliest days of the outbreak, the Long Arms were among the most feared mutants in Fairview. When the outbreak of new mutants broke loose, the Long Arms gradually began to disappear, and for a time, they were believed to have died out. This belief has been completely shattered by the reappearance of these fearsome creatures. These mutants are believed to have developed longer arms as a result of N4 mutations, combined with an increased intake of calcium in their diet, due to their reported habit of consuming the bones of their prey. With similar speed to a Bone and reach paralleling that of a Tendril, the Long Arms is not to be taken lightly—then again, it never WAS advised to take these creatures lightly in combat.
  • Much tougher than the female and kid zombies, because they are less affected by knockback and deal more damage. Their additional muscle mass enables them to take a lot of punishment, so beware of male zombies if you are not certain you will win in a fight with one.
  • While some forms of mutations of the virus within the infected make up for areas its rotting vessel is lacking in to increase survivability and longevity, the mutations found within the Wasteland's inhabitants have taken a different direction and the Black Tendril is one of the oddest. The virus has begun to allow the Tendrils once powerful tentacle arms to decay and reach stages of black putrefaction, which many survivors believe is to increase the chances of the infection to carry over to those that are hit and are not immune.
  • Once an ordinary female infected, the N4 virus mutated its unfortunate victim into a figure that looks like it walked out of a nightmare. Its moniker is derived from the meter-long tentacles that have replaced its arms. The Tendril now uses these tentacles to slam survivors with enough force to break multiple bones, severely bruise muscle tendons, and tear deep lacerations in the skin. This abomination is exceptionally deadly due to its heightened senses, unearthly reflexes, and ludicrous speed. Close-quarters combat isn't impossible, but it is not recommended. It is not uncommon for a survivor to be eviscerated before his weapon can be drawn against it. For some reason, Tendrils seem to more common in black zones than any other mutants and attacks in larger groups.
  • A more deadly variation to the original Rumbler that is harder to kill and more dangerous to survivors.
  • These mutants join the Pumpkinheads as one of the most unintimidating, but nonetheless powerful, mutants. Mysteriously appearing just before Easter, the mutants began attacking looters and fighters alike all around the city. Their bodies are similar to those of male burned zombies, but their heads appear to have taken on the shape and likeness of a giant, brightly painted Easter egg. Despite their comical appearance, they should not be taken lightly, they possess speed equal to that of a tendril, and can do considerable damage to an unprepared survivor.
  • The N4 outbreak was not the first pandemic in recorded history; the obesity pandemic has plagued millions since the dawn of mankind. When the two are combined, you get this monster as a result. A protective adipose tissue layer has given the Brute the ability to take even more hits than a normal infected. And like all its other obese peers, it has the ability to dynamically eject its stomach contents, including caustic hydrochloric acid. Despite its relatively slow speed, long-range combat is seen as more useful than close/mid-ranged combat.
  • In the pre-outbreak world, St. Nicholas was believed to send out human helpers, dressed in his likeness, to various shopping malls and Christmas festivals around the world, to gather lists of the toys and gifts that children wanted. Thanks to the outbreak, however, all of these helpers have been zombified, and have all somehow been turned into super powered mutants, bringing death, destruction, and bloodlust in place of their former joy, warmth, and cheer. They appear to resemble Slenderman, except dressed in red Christmas themed attire. European culture views Santa as a man with a small to medium build, unlike that of the American view of an extremely fat, jolly man. They should not be taken lightly, no matter what kind of happy, fond memories you may still have of these substitute Santas. They possess the speed of a burning zombie and can easily tear you to shreds.
  • One of the larger infected that ambles the streets of Fairview, the Bloat is more than capable when push comes to shove. Unlike other infected, which actively hunt out survivors to feast on, Bloats are more commonly seen scavenging off of the numerous corpses that litter the streets. Nevertheless, the Bloat will relentlessly pursue fresh meat if provoked. Despite being almost as large as most bosses, they are not even a fraction of the threat level posed by a Titan. They are rather slow, somewhat weak, and easily dispatched. The Bloat's appearance is a result of the buildup of methane gas within its body cavities . Like their smaller counterparts, Bloats have been known to violently explode when slain, showering their aggressors with shards of bone and gastric acid. This consequence may be avoided with a few melee hits and a well-placed pistol shot from two meters away.
  • The male counterpart to the purple family is more heavily built than its female counterpart. Purple male zombies are less affected by knockback than normal male zombies, and deal a lot more damage.
  • The Blood Dog appears to be one of the few varieties of infected canine prowling the streets of Fairview. Its flesh is exposed to reveal glistening musculature beneath, the grotesque look of the beast demoralizing and sickening to most who look upon it. Its quickly snapping jaws are filled with sharp teeth that clamp shut on any that stray too close and will remain shut until the prey is downed or a chunk of flesh is ripped away.
  • Fathers, sons, brothers, uncles, husbands, and friends who lost their lives in the early stages of the zombie outbreak. Naturally having more mass than their female counterparts, these zombies are more immune to knock-back and have a higher constitution.
  • Some humans were seemingly caught naked while being transformed from infection into the monsters they now are. These unfortunate men were caught taking a shower, sleeping naked, or buying a prostitute's services when the epidemic struck. They now prowl the streets with the clothed zombies.
  • As if a Black Titan wasn’t enough for Fairview, there is now a flaming variant of it. That’s right, a Flaming Black Titan. You know what this means right? Harder to take down, it hits a great deal harder, but is much more rewarding if you manage to bring down such a beast. So, you now not only have to watch out for its instant killing punches, swipes, and excessive speed, but you're now at risk of severe burns. The only fathomable way of the Flaming Black Titan coming into existence is that a Black Titan either walked into an enraged blaze, or some not so bright survivor had a ludicrous thought that trying to ignite the Black Titan would bring it down. If that’s the case, it only made things worse; much, much worse. With the necrosis of its cells, the N-4 virus, and the fact that it is now aflame, almost any wounds that are caused to it are healed near instantly, and that’s if the bullets even manage to penetrate its steel-like bones and hide. Now, more than ever, the remaining survivors of the zombie infested Fairview need to band together to bring down such a heinous creature, before it wreaks havoc upon what little remains of Fairview and its survivors…
  • This insanely fast enemy is one of the toughest, if not THE toughest, N4 mutants in Fairview. Back when fuel was still available and vehicles could be operated, there were reports from scouts of these monstrosities outrunning moving cars and slaughtering their occupants in a matter of seconds. Unwary survivors who encounter this beast will die just as they lived— without a fighting chance.
  • For the first time since the apocalypse has started, the virus has mutated to a point where it almost seems it is creating a new species entirely. These once beloved pups have become unrecognizable after years of the virus trying to adapt to its harsh surroundings and has turned Fido into a grotesque killing machine. Their visuals and extremely violent behavior brings a new meaning to hell on earth, which has led to them being called Hell Hounds. Survivors be warned, Hell Hounds travel in large packs and are one of the most common infected to come across while traversing the Wasteland.
  • In the first weeks after the Outbreak it was still believed that immolation of the infected would destroy the virus. It was not until the first burned zombie sightings that the survivors realized that exposure to fire makes the virus and its host more powerful. Although Burned Females have been observed as the most common form of Burning Zombies, there are still occasional reports of male Burning Zombies being encountered...
  • Exposure to fire has ramped up this zombie's strength to levels far greater than those of their non-burning counterparts. Scientists hypothesize that the fire caused the virus to accelerate and mutate the bones into a dense, formidable armored shell. The extreme heat radiating from its burning body also increases the damage it deals. So far, most of Fairview's scouts that encountered this creature have died. Some are ripped to shreds by the Titan's claws. Others are crushed under the sheer weight and mass of the Titan's charge. The extremely lucky ones that managed to bring it down will surely have great bragging rights. In short, this beast makes the normal titan look like a child's plaything.
  • Mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, wives, and friends who lost their lives in the early stages of the zombie outbreak. They retain no memories of their former lives and attack any and all humans, even ones with whom they shared the deepest connections with. Survivors who recognize their loved ones have had trouble killing them, and those that have say it's one of the darkest moments they have ever experienced.
  • Survivors coming back from the deeper parts of the city have brought rumors of a grotesque creature. While some of these explorers argued that the proper name must be the 'Licker,' due to its very long tongue, 'Leaper' has become the name generally accepted in Fairview society. The Leaper sports a warped skeletal and muscular structure, rendering it only capable of walking with an awkward gait. Its muscles are tightly-packed, providing it with unrivaled physical strength. This mutant's tongue is perhaps its most striking feature, measuring anywhere from three to six feet in length . Recent research has found that the Leaper seems to have developed the ability to secrete an extremely potent, lethal toxin from glands around its tongue. It thus uses its tongue like a whip to slash its victims and infect them with the toxin, which causes fatal damage to the body within seconds. The Leaper's hands are just as dangerous as its tongue, packing enough force to punch through even the strongest of armors with deadly precision. Nonetheless, some of the braver survivors have suggested that melee combat with this cumbersome beast is better than ranged, as its slow speed makes it easy to avoid.
  • These mutants are by far one of the most unusual enemies encountered yet. Their bodies are similar to those of male burned zombies, but their heads appear to have taken on the shape and likeness of a jack-o-lantern. Despite their comical appearance, they should not be taken lightly—they possess speed equal to that of a tendril, and can do considerable damage to an unprepared survivor.
  • If Wraiths are giving Anime viewers nightmares, then the nightmares of the Burning Wraith must be the worst of them. Be sure you're prepared before you try to extinguish one. Some survivors claim that they have fired thousands of rounds into this beast, only to find themselves equipped with a pocket knife as their only usable weapon, far away from the sanctity of an outpost, with an enraged and still breathing Burning Wraith still on their back...
  • This mutant evolved from a human with a mid-size frame and a less than amicable disposition. Scouts' reports claim that these mutants originated from the area around Fairview's prison complex, north of Dogg's Stockade, suggesting that the prison's more aggressive inmates were among the first to become Reapers. The dominant arm of a Reaper is comprised of a massive razor-sharp blade. This essentially warns you not to face it with melee, as many who have done so—mostly stupid survivors with big blades—were usually outdone by an even stupider monster with an even bigger blade.
  • Slightly weaker than a male fat zombie, identifiable by the blue shower cap it wears. Fat zombies are very resistant to knockback and weak hits such as a non-critical chainsaw or knife hit won't interrupt its attacks nor be able to stop them once they're coming for you. They were hungry during life, and now they're even more hungry after getting infected.
  • While all agreed on how these zombies had gotten into this stage of mutation, not all of these people could agree on how they could have grown so exponentially. It is hypothesized that the N4 virus mutated the pituitary gland to excrete vast amounts of HGH , the same mutation that might be found in Titans and Wraiths. Again, the same strategy used with the smaller ones could be applied here as well, as neither of the theories of its genesis improved its intelligence.
  • These zombies are far stronger than both red zombies and their fatter counterpart and have replaced the shiny red zombies. Their long arms extend their reach of melee attacks quite a bit, so being a skilled runner will help. They are thought to have grown long arms as the result of eating the bones, and therefore the calcium, of their prey. It is more likely, however, results of mutations from exposure to N4. Long armed zombies are only found in the farthest Northern and Southern reaches of the city. It is said that those survivors who use weaker weapons have suicidal tendencies.
  • This hulking beast is among the new infected that have been reported in the most recent outbreak of mutations. Named for their low, rumbling growl, Rumblers appear to have undergone mutations that are extremely similar to those seen in Bones, except their body structure is apparently meant to emphasize offensive ability more than that of a Bone. Based on the few studies performed by scientists, their torso has developed an enlarged ribcage surrounded by compacted fat tissue as a defensive measure, while their stockier, enlarged arm muscles allow them to deliver strikes with more force than a Bone. However, they sacrifice speed for power and are not capable of moving as quickly as a Bone.
  • These are the strongest of all normal zombies that can be found near the outpost. Like the Female Fat Zombies, they are not knocked back or interrupted by weak weapons and should be fought with caution. Their body seems to be mainly a bunch of fat, but there's a good bit of muscle within that as well - that mixture makes them both powerful and quite resistant to most weaker attacks.
  • This is currently the toughest as well as the second rarest kind of zombie known by any survivors. Not only do they possess enormous strength, but long armed red zombies always surround them like minions. This is because the few reported appearances of this species of zombie happened at the northeastern end of the sector nicknamed Death Row or the southeastern at the end of the sector. Either pack some serious firepower with you, or don't even think about fighting. Even if you manage to kill it, you will still be surrounded by lots of long armed red zombies, which want to avenge their master by not letting you loot it so easily. If you wish to fight one, high agility and endurance are strongly recommended. If you happen to find this beast and lack agility, endurance, and courage you are recommended to get your arse back to the outpost as soon as possible because of massive amounts of aggro that always appear with this monster.
  • A fast and dangerous long arm with fearsome reach found in the end zone.
  • The fatter counterpart of a green zombie, they are much stronger, as well as slower. Fat Green sightings have been reported only a few streets away from the northeast and southeast extremes of the map. Like any other green zombie, they raise the aggression and attention of nearby zombies by large amounts so killing and looting Fat Greens will be much more difficult due to their rare appearances having been only reported in the most dangerous of areas.
  • An extremely fast and powerful infected canine found in the End Zones which seems to have undergone skin putrefaction and blackening like in other Black mutants. These beasts can and will chase you down, and are dangerous when combated in packs of two or more. Extreme caution is advised when fighting these monstrosities.
  • It has become common knowledge that Bones are infected in the early stages of mutating into a deadly Titan, and from there it was thought it would eventually complete its mutation and become a Black Titan. With the discovery of the Black Bone, that was proven wrong. The Black Titan is actually the result of the virus within bones evolving in a different way due to their more hostile environment making the Black Titan more of a cousin to the Titan rather than the final stage of that mutation. The reasoning behind the Bones skin turning black is unknown, however, it was discovered that this variant would explode on death much like a Bloat to increase the odds of its specific form of the virus to find a new host.
  • The fatter version of the Red Zombie. Don't be fooled - they are harder to kill and knock back due to their many layers of protective fat and corrupted flesh. The "downside" of their additional strength and resistance against hits is that they move slightly slower than regular red zombies. At about 30 blocks away from the outpost, fat red zombies were spotted.
  • A highly dangerous irradiated infected found in the end zone. Its vomit attack is comparable to a 'Flaming Mother' boss for range and damage.
  • These are the strongest of all unmutated zombies that can be found near the outpost. Like the Female Fat Zombies, they are not knocked back or interrupted by weak weapons. Their bodies have a higher fat index than the average zombie, but there's a good bit of muscle to support it. These zombies can be thick bullet cushions and take more ammo to bring down.
  • Broken fragments of reports have been coming from the unexplored city area deep in black zones of a monstrous Titan almost twice the size of an average Titan. Among the few details gleaned from these reports, it has been confirmed that this beast has soot-black skin, and its bony protrusions have a black tinge as well. Evidence was recently unearthed of a covert mission conducted by AdminPwn, several of his commanding officers, and a handpicked team of elite survivors. A report was later released admitting that the mission did indeed happen. At the cost of half his men being brutally eviscerated, AdminPwn and his remaining team were able to acquire a sample—just one small sample—of the Black Titan's flesh before being forced to retreat by a literal group of boss zombies. Analysis of the sample revealed that this beast's entire body is composed of rotted flesh that has undergone complete necrosis , and then been forced back to 'life' by the N4 virus. The combined necrosis, reviving, and additional effects of the N4 that are not fully understood have turned the Black Titan into the epitome of a killing machine—its bones have grown to form a kind of steel hide far stronger than that of any normal Titan, and its N4-laced flesh has developed the ability to seal up inflicted wounds multiple times before finally becoming vulnerable to permanent injury. Do not try to take on this monster alone—do not even THINK about trying, unless you wish to die. The survivors of Fairview will now be forced to unite their strength if there is to be any hope of bringing down what is quite possibly the Nerotonin-4's most devastating creation yet...
  • Named for the bone-like protrusions from its body, the Bone was once a human with a strong skeletal structure and a defensive mindset. Its lean muscled frame provides it the ability to maneuver more quickly than most of Fairview’s new bestiary. A weapon of any range is fine, as long as the user has the physical and mental proficiency to send this ghoul back to where it belongs.
  • The female counterpart of the Irradiated Male Zombie. Slightly weaker and visibly smaller in size, but also slightly faster.
  • It is believed that this zombie was a burned zombie but after eating many humans, the digestive system in the zombie could not digest the food fast enough. Thus the body sensed that the only way to allow continued feeding was to eject the stomach acid and the leftovers of a previous meal. To that end, the only way to empty the stomach's contents quickly was to shoot them out of the zombie's mouth in deadly chunks of highly acidic stomach juice. Needless to say, occasionally this offal is found to include some charming parts from the bodies of unfortunate survivors.
  • The host of the virus must have been incredibly flexible and naturally dexterous to evolve into the mutant known as the Spider. The N4 viral mutations resulted in the growth of two extra pairs of arms, allowing the Spider to be among the fastest mutants encountered. These extra appendages also serve to lower the Spider's center of gravity, which makes these fiends impervious to weapon knockback. Spiders use their forelimbs to claw at survivors, but they evolved for agility, not physical power. Close combat is only advised under the condition that the survivor is quick enough to evade these blows and attack from behind. Weapons with large spread or rapid fire rate are most advocated because they leave plenty of room for error.
  • Mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, wives, and friends who lost their lives in the early stages of the zombie outbreak. They retain no memories of their former lives and attack any and all humans, even ones with whom they shared their deepest connections with. Survivors who recognize their loved ones have had trouble killing them. Those that have said it's one of the darkest moments they have ever experienced.

  • Greatly resistant to knockback and stuns. Unlike other zombies, the spider goes straight from its calm state to its enraged state upon spotting a survivor.
  • This zombie's health is slightly larger than a burning zombie and it will explode upon death. It is confirmed that they will drop a loot known as an 'Easter Egg' if successfully killed. Spawns in all danger zones.
  • Engaging with this infected will be a long and difficult task. It was confirmed that they would drop extremely rare loot, including normally un-lootable unique items, if successfully killed. However, during the Halloween Madness V2 2013 event, they dropped only Trick or Treats when killed. The music also changes to a Halloween theme before being sighted. Spawned in black zones; in rare cases orange zones during the Halloween Madness V2 2013 event
  • This is a boss mutation of the existing Rumbler zombie. This mutation comes in a pack of 5, however, unlike Flaming Long Arms they are much harder to knock back. Take advantage of their lower range and slower movement speed.
  • Same deadly range of a long arm but it can take and deal more damage.
  • This zombie's health is a bit bigger than a burning zombie and it will explode upon death. It was confirmed that they would drop extremely rare loot, including normally un-lootable unique items, if successfully killed. • This infected can be seen during the Christmas event Rage of Rudolph.
  • A more advanced female zombie but easier to target.
  • Faster than small Bloat when on its enraged state. Explodes upon death. The blast radius is comparable to that of a grenade launcher. Close quarters combat is unadvised.

  • This category has the following 12 subcategories, out of 12 total.
  • A list of all the fell beasts that have appeared in the Conan series. * Grey ape — Grey apes are huge gorilla-like beasts with grey fur. They inhabit the shores of the Vilayet Sea, and are well-known for both their incredible strength and their ferocity. Even Conan, who himself is the mightiest and most savage warrior of the Hyborian Age, has had a few close calls with these creatures. Not only this, but Grey apes are also capable of great cunning and intelligence. In "Rogues in the House", the being called Thak, himself a Grey ape, is able to manipulate complex booby traps, thus demonstrating his learning ability. Grey apes also appear in The Hour of the Dragon, and "Iron Shadows in the Moon". * Black One — The Black Ones are a race of tall humanoids with glossy ebony skin and sharp claws like bestial talons on their long fingers. With eyes like fiery amber, their faces are inhuman, every feature stamped with evil. None can tell the true nature of the Black Ones; are they a race of hell-spawned devils, or an extraterrestrial brood from across the stars? Whatever the case, they represent a form of life far removed from the common earthly variety. Dwelling within a strange city made of translucent green stone, which itself lies on a lost island far beyond the normal trade routes of humanity's sea-faring nations, they practice a horrific religion involving a green pool. Conan, along with a band of Zingaran Freebooters, encounter these demonic beings and their blasphemous pool in "The Pool of the Black One". * Giant serpent — The Stygians worship the giant serpents as gods, believing them to be avatars and children of Set. In the dark city of Khemi, giant serpents freely slither through the streets, devouring any random person they wish. Chosen victims are expected to prostrate themselves before the reptilians and accept their fate. But the giant serpents have also appeared in other places besides Stygia, and are notorious throughout the Hyborian world. The exact size may vary, but the largest of these ophidians can have a head larger than that of a horse, and a body thicker in diameter than a large man. Giant serpents can use either their constricting coils or their potent venom to subdue prey. Besides these monstrous qualities, the giant serpents are also gifted with a strange and supernatural sense of vision. In "The Scarlet Citadel", Pelias the Wizard says of the giant serpents: "The scaled people see what escapes the mortal eye. You see my fleshly guise; he saw my naked soul." Although it is never explicitly stated, it is safe to assume that the giant serpents may have some connection to the Serpent-men of Kull's time. There also appear to be several varieties of serpents; the Ghost Snake seen in "Beyond the Black River", and the Golden Serpents mentioned in "Red Nails", with their petrified eyes glowing like green flame in the city of Xuchotl, can both easily be considered a species of giant serpent. The giant serpents appear in The Hour of the Dragon, "The Scarlet Citadel", "Black Colossus", "The Devil in Iron", "Beyond the Black River", and "Red Nails". * Giant spider — Frighteningly large arachnids, giant spiders are not out of place in the Hyborian Age. In "The Tower of the Elephant", Conan is attacked by a huge venomous spider in the upper levels of the tower. The size of a pig, the spider uses thick ropes of sticky webbing to try and trap the Cimmerian, a ploy which almost works. With its eight legs, the spider is also devilishly quick and agile, and its fangs can deliver a deadly venom. Giant spiders are said to be common in Zamora, a land where the spider-god Zath has found a loyal following. * Hyborian dragon — This great reptilian beast is a remnant of a lost age, an age where many of its kind made the Earth tremble with their thunderous roars and the early ancestors of man still dwelt in the trees. By the Hyborian Age they are all but extinct, but that doesn't change the fact that Conan and Valeria are attacked by one of these saurians in Red Nails. It is alluded that the inhabitants of Xuchotl used the bones of the prehistoric monsters to resurrect them with arcane necromancy. These re-animated monsters roamed the jungles around the lost city for many centuries, but their aggressive natures caused them to eventually kill each other off until there was only one left. Despite its large size, the dragon can move very fast, and its scaly hide is impervious to most weapons. Not even the prowess of Conan can afford him victory, forcing the Cimmerian to use his wits. * Ghoul — Ghouls are mutated humanoids who are said to be a result of cross-mating between men and devils. They haunt the forests on the borders of Argos and Zingara, preying on any unlucky traveler they come across. Conan happens to be one of those unlucky travelers in "The Hour of the Dragon", but with his wits and skill he is able to fight his way out of the horde and escape certain death. The ghouls are described as being short, almost simian-like in stature, with pale gray skin that feels clammy to the touch. But it is their faces that causes Conan the most revulsion: soulless unblinking eyes stare out from misshapen visages, their monstrous dog-like jaws chomping at Conan's throat. Despite their somewhat short height, their limbs exceed the strength of most humans. With a charnel-house reek wafting from their bodies, the ghouls hunger for living flesh, whether it comes from beast or man. * Winged Horror — Deep in the remote jungles of the Black Kingdoms, on the banks of some forgotten river, there are the remains of a lost city. Here dwell the Winged Horrors. It is believed that the Winged Horrors are degenerate descendants of a lost race of winged men, alien and powerful and wise. But as great and majestic as the old race was, so hard did they fall into the darkest depths of savagery and depravity. Once angelic, these people became monstrous to look upon, and even more bestial in their habits and mentality. Over the ages the city became forgotten, crumbling into ruin as the jungle reclaimed it, but the Winged Horrors still haunt the land. One of these monsters is the main antagonist of the "Queen of the Black Coast". * Yothga the Devil-Flower — According to Pelias, Yothga is not native to Earth, but rather is from the distant planet Yag the Accursed. Yothga's seeds drifted across timeless black gulfs before landing on Earth, where its roots descended deep into the earth. It is said that the roots of the Devil-Flower reach into Hell itself. Once rooted, Yothga used its vine-like tendrils to catch any living thing within reach and parasitically devour both body and soul of the victim. A victim could be fed upon for years, helpless in Yothga's vines while the alien plant fed on their very mind and reducing them to a placid and dumb state. If a victim were to be freed, however, they would quickly recover their senses and intellect. In "The Scarlet Citadel", Conan encountered the devil flower in the dungeons of Tsothi-lanti's palace, along with a large number of other blasphemous horrors. * Yag-Kosha, the Elephant-Being of Yag — Far out in space, across timeless gulfs, there is a green planet called Yag. From this world came Yag-Kosha and several of his kin, who journeyed to Earth with the power of their own wings to escape the rulers of that alien planet. Upon landing on Earth ages ago, their wings withered into useless stumps on their backs, and they were stranded on a grim and savage world. Though ultimately mortal, Yag-Kosha and his brethren had lifespans rivaling that of the stars and constellations. With their superficially elephant-like facial features, as well as their great knowledge and power, Yag-Kosha and the others greatly impressed the humans they came across in the eastern jungles, becoming deified and worshiped over the years. The "elephant-beings" taught powerful magic to the humans that came to them, but only that which they deemed as safe for their followers. The shadowy black arts they shunned. Throughout this long period, the civilizations of mankind shifted. Valusia collapsed, Atlantis sank beneath the waves, and cataclysms rocked the world. From the ashes rose the Hyborians and other races. In time, many of Yag-Kosha's people died, and eventually he was all that was left of the refugees of Yag. As Yag-Kosha aged, his human pupil Yara rebelled and enslaved him in an attempt to seize power. Journeying west to the land of Zamora, Yara came to its similarly named capital, with Yag-Kosha as his thrall, and imprisoned the alien in the Tower of the Elephant. For years the wizard, believed by many to be a devil in human guise, tortured Yag-Kosha, interrogating and probing him for arcane secrets and necromantic knowledge, until Yag-Kosha was left blind and broken. But when Conan came to the legendary Tower seeking the Heart of the Elephant, a jewel of fabled power, Yag-Kosha sees in the young Cimmerian an opportunity for both liberation...and revenge. * Saber-toothed Tiger — The deep ancient forests of the Pictish Wilderness have existed for untold ages, its mysteries hidden from the ken of man and untouched by time itself. To the Aquilonians, the Pictish Wilderness marks the boundaries of civilization, an uttermost frontier beyond which lies a shadowy beast-haunted realm inhabited by devils and savages. Who knows what lurks in that timeless forest that looms beyond the Black River? It is well known that Pictland is teeming with all manner of panthers, wolves, bears, and serpents, but not even the most insane nightmares can ever conceive of the beings that lurk in the deep wilds and remember the name of Jhebbal Sag. The survivor of an ancient, grimmer age, the Saber-toothed Tiger is but one of the horrors that answers the call of the Pictish wizard, Zogar Sag. With its massive build, more bear-like than feline, and great brutish head, it is an amalgamation of brutal extinct and bestial savagery. Its eyes burn greenly in the gloom, its long tapering fangs glinting like ivory scimitars, and with one swipe of its mighty paw it reduces a man to a grim red ruin. The Aquilonian youth, Balthus, a prisoner of the Picts, bears witness to the nightmarish power of the Saber-tooth in Beyond the Black River. * Icthyan Killing Machine: The killing machine was a armored monster the Queen Gedren unleashed upon Red Sonja, Kalidur attempted to kill it but found its armor inpenetrable and so resorted to blinding the creature by removing its eyeballs.
  • There are many monsters in the realm of Taborea. You can find information on them in the following pages.

  • File:Dreamstone.gif Every monster can drop a Dreamstone; area and vengeance bossses can drop multiple Dreamstones. Bosses are more likely to drop them than regular monsters. You cannot pilfer them from vengeance bosses. There is usually a 1%-5% chance of a drop. File:Recipe.gif Most items a monster drops can be obtained from pilfering. However, gold and weapon recipes can only be obtained by pilfering. Weapon recipes are unobtainable anywhere else, aside from other players, life quests and Elder quests. This can be done with the thief class skills Pilfer and Pillage, as well as the skill Master Thief of Shadows obtained by the Secret Skill Bug. File:Bronze Shoes.gif Only area and vengeance bosses, as well as "unique" and asterisk monsters can drop a piece of armor. File:Onyx of Sincerity.gif All monsters have a chance of dropping onyxes. Normal monsters drop them for , which decrease damage taken from the same job as the monster is, and the level limit is around the monsters level. Area bosses usually drop elemental onyxes. Vengeance bosses can drop most kinds of onyxes. |}

  • This section provides details, profiles, and general information about some of the creatures living in the Old World - and which form a part of the game. The list is not intended to be comprehensive, nor are the descriptions to be regarded as inviolable; gamesmasters who want to create their own monsters should treat the entries as examples and invent whatever new and interesting monstrosities they like. The various creatures are presented in five sections: Humanoids, Animals & Monsters, Undead, Elementals, and Daemons. Humanoid creatures comprise the majority of intelligent monsters, as well as characters, hirelings, and so on. Since they behave - by and large - in a manner comparible to Humans, these creatures are the easiest to roleplay and will generally behave in a rational manner. Animals & Monsters include a representative selection of the many varieties of ordinary and fantastic creatures which inhabit the Old World - from Amoebae to Scorpions. Most of these creatures have at least an animal level of intelligence and their main motivation is usually food! Undead include both animated corpses (such as Zombies and Skeletons) and more powerful creatures who are sustained by extra-planar energies - either directly or by Necromancers and other evil, magic-using monsters. Ethereal Undead are those monsters which lack a material existence - they can be seen in this world, but they are not wholly part of it. Generally, they exist only as apparitions or pure energy. GMs should try to present these creatures as the ghostly uncertain images that they are, sometimes appearing substantial, at other times as mere shadows or glowing lights. Elementals are manifestations of the natural forces inherent in the four elements of Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. They can take on many different shapes, often depending on the circumstances of their manifestation; as most Elementals are summoned by elementalist wizards or druidic priests, they usually respond by taking humanoid form. Daemons are the servants of various malign deities and do not belong to the material world. The appearance of one of these horrific creatures is usually the result either of a direct command from the deity it serves or of a powerful magical summons from a character in the material world. Daemons can never be 'killed' - instead they are forced to retreat back to their home plane, where they slowly heal their wounds and plot their revenge...
