Runecrafting is a time-consuming skill, being currently the rarest level 99 skill, even though it's free to play. To start this skill you'll need to complete the Runes Mysteries quest. After you do so, you can now use one of the Talismans (or tiara) on the correct Alter that matches it's element, and then use the essence in your inventory to make that rune. You can only do air runes to start off, but later on you'll be able to make many different kinds of runes (and combination runes if your P2P)
