The population is incredibly low for a highly developed planet, but the explanation for it is easily found when one considers what Calidna is home to. The planet is home to Radion Labs, the research and development corporation that is responsible for all parts of the Muir Corporation's technology. It works hand in hand with the various branches of the Muir military as well as the other divisions of the corporation. Formerly the home of the Eldari Ascendancy's think tank, when the Muir took over, they moved Radion Labs' headquarters and facilities to Calidna. The system and the planet is effectively locked down. No one comes into the system who isn't supposed to be there, and there are various defense networks set up to keep the information and technology on the planet secure. The Muir have set up a number of defensive systems throughout the system, built around a series of defense space stations and a standing fleet. Because of the business conducted by Radion Labs and the taxes involved therein, the system is able to afford a better defense fleet and home defense corps than some other Muir systems. Another of the defenses set up, is a number of asteroid hangars within the asteroid belt rings around the planet.
