  • Black Belt Socialist Republic
rdfs:comment
  • The Black Belt Socialist Republic was an abortive state briefly established by socialist revolutionaries in southern Georgia during the Red Rebellion of 1915, with Albany as this republic's capital. It was defeated and dissolved by the Confederate States Army the same year. From its founding, the Reds fought a guerrilla war against the Confederate Army until its eventual defeat. Unlike its northern neighbor, the Congaree Socialist Republic, the leadership of the Black Belt Socialist Republic was defeated and destroyed while trying to retreat, and there was no opportunity to fight a rear guard action.

Jefferson Pinkard exchanged taunts with one of the Red guerrillas moments before the last of the remnant of the republic was destroyed. After crushing the Reds in Georgia, the same Confederate soldiers were then sent to fight the USA in west Texas.
