Eventually, Veitch backed down and as a result, Gibbs and Kate headed out to join the Philadelphia while DiNozzo and McGee stayed at the Base to search for more clues. It's presumed that Veitch was left red-faced after the report of an impostor trying to release sarin gas onto the USS Philadelphia reached the Norfolk Naval Base and it's also possible that he was given a huge dressing-down by his superiors for not even heeding the warnings in the first place.
