Despite being a beautiful and elegant girl, with a tall model-like figure and long, flowing blue hair, she actually has a short temper, and was initially shown to be the most skeptical of the three. Later on, however, between the three Magic Knights, she took on the mantle of the Big Sister and proved to be very protective of her two best friends, Fuu Hououji and Hikaru Shidou. She is voiced by Yoshida Konami in the Japanese Dub and Wendee Lee in the English Dub.

When she arrives in Cephiro, she recieves white and gold armor lined with sapphires. When Umi's armor evolves for the last time, she wears a black leotard with blue armor at the top with a blue cape. Despite her lovely model-like appearences, Umi is actually short-tempered and sometimes arrogant and doubtful.

Pero luego reordena sus prioridades, y al despertar a su Mashin, Ceres, se da cuenta de cuánto necesita a sus amigas, y decide pelear por el futuro de Cefiro con ellas. Siempre pelea con Mokona y discute con Clef. Su elemento es el agua. Umi posee una esbelta figura y es agraciada de rostro y maneras. Llama notoriamente la atención (a nosotros, al menos) sus largos y lisos cabellos azules, los cuales lleva adornados con una cinta azul. Es la más alta de las protagonistas, posees la piel blanca y sus ojos son azules también. El uniforme escolar consiste en camisa blanca con saoo azul oscuro. Una pequeña corbata naranja adorna el pecho. La falda corta es celeste y el resto de las piernas están cubiertas con largas medias negras y ajustadas. Por último el calzado consiste en botines también azules. En verano, el saco es reemplazado por un chaleco del mismo color, y tampoco lleva las medias. La armadura mágica que lleva en sus días en Céfiro evoluciona al igual que las de sus amigas, llegando a ser el traje de Guerrera Mágica. Dicho traje es azul y sumamente adornado el cual cubre un interior negro. Líneas doradas y gemas celestes, así como un ancho cinturón blanco completan el uniforme. También lleva hombreras azules de estilizado diseño. Brazos y piernas están protegidos por largos guantes y botines. Finalmente, el adorno azul de la cabeza contiene otra gema celeste y delgadas extensiones blancas a los lados. Cuando fue capturada por los enviados de Cizeta, se le dio un reducido atuendo que exponía su vientre lo cual la apenaba bastante. Como miembro del club de esgrima, es lógico que su arma predilecta sea una espada. La primera que obtiene es una de diseño sencillo y hoja delgada, como un florete. Su espada mágica tiene también una hoja delgada mientras que la empuñadura cambia numerosas veces pero siempre vemos en ella la forma de un dragón: primero es un huevo, luego “nace” un pequeño animalito, al cual le salen alas y termina representando la cabeza y alas del poderoso ser. En la OVA lleva un uniforme negro con cubierta superior blanca y listón en moño turquesa. No hay traje especial y al pelear con el Genio lo hará desde su interior.
