Deep Space Station K-7
rdfs:comment
Deep Space Station K-7 was a Starfleet built and civilian-run space station in service during the 2260s. Located within Federation space, K-7 sat near the border of the Klingon Empire, just 3.2 light years from the nearest Klingon outpost, and was at least two hundred light years from the Cardassian Union. In 2267, it was the site of storage for quadrotriticale destined for Sherman's Planet. The USS Enterprise responded to a distress call from the station, which turned out to be false. The Enterprise transferred guards to the station to protect the grain. (TOS episode: "The Trouble with Tribbles") By 2376, Deep Space Station K-7 had become known for being a location where stolen goods were sold. (TNG - Gateways novel: Doors Into Chaos) The station was located about 3.2 light years from the next Klingon outpost and mainly consisted of storage areas and industrial fabrication facilities with only little habitable space. (TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles"; TAS: "More Tribbles, More Troubles") It was at least two hundred light years from the 24th century borders of the Cardassian Union. (DS9: "Trials and Tribble-ations") By 2380, the station was run by a Starfleet contingent, serving as a diplomatic meeting ground for the three major powers. It was nicknamed "Junction Point." n22:abstract
The station came into promenance in the year 2268 when it was chosen as the center for developing Sherman's Planet, a disputed world along the Federation-Klingon border. Per the terms of the Organian Peace Treaty, the planet would ultimately be given to the world that proved it could develop it the best; the Federation's plan was to turn it into an agricultural world, growing vast amounts of the grain quadrotriticale. This plan was ultimately derailed later that year when the entire grain store there was poisoned by an undercover Klingon agent, a problem further compounded by a tribble infestation unwittingly started by a passing trader. These events were even further complicated when time travelers from the year 2373 arrived, but the original history of the event was preserved with only a few minor changes. In 2267, it was the site of storage for quadrotriticale destined for Sherman's Planet. The USS Enterprise responded to a distress call from the station, which turned out to be false. The Enterprise transferred guards to the station to protect the grain. (TOS episode: "The Trouble with Tribbles") The crew of Deep Space 9 were brought to the station from 2373, when Arne Darvin used the Bajoran Orb of Time to transport the USS Defiant back in time, so he could kill Captain Kirk. The crew were able to find the tribble Darvin had a planted a bomb in and saved Kirk's life. (DS9 episode: "Trials and Tribble-ations") By the 2340s, K-7 had fallen into disrepair and the station hadn't been upgraded or refitted in decades. In 2343, Lieutenant Commander Elias Vaughn met Lorgh in the station's bar and discussed the continued problem between the Klingons and Cardassians on Raknal V and about the rising threat of the Romulans. (ST - The Lost Era novel: The Art of the Impossible) By 2376, Deep Space Station K-7 had become known for being a location where stolen goods were sold. (TNG - Gateways novel: Doors Into Chaos) In 2391 unsuccessful peace talks were held between the Klingon Empire, Gorn and Nausicaans at the station; these only lasted for two days before an explosion and subsequent murder of a Klingon extremist (the body was ejected into space but had snagged onto the outside of the station). (ST website: The Path to 2409) In 2405, Starfleet Captain Shir th'Talias was the station's commanding officer. By 2409, the station had been moved into orbit around Sherman's Planet, and Naomi Wildman became the station's new commander. However, the station was still severely outdated, and was still dangerously close to the border with the Klingons. Captain Mackenzie Calhoun and Mercedes Santiago were also stationed on the station in 2409. (ST website: The Path to 2409; STO video game: Star Trek Online) The station was located about 3.2 light years from the next Klingon outpost and mainly consisted of storage areas and industrial fabrication facilities with only little habitable space. It was nicknamed "Junction Point." (Junction Point) Alternately, in Star Trek: Elite Force II by 2380 the station had become run down and was operated by a band of "space pirates".
