The massive Allegiance-class Star Destroyer, also known as the Gauntlet Star Cruiser, is a dedicated fleet destroyer with heavy armor and no hangar bay, similar to the Tector-class. Unlike the Tector, the Allegiance-class has a large ventral bulb, which houses a massive reactor to create very powerful weapons and shields. The stern, thrusters and command module are almost identical to those of the smaller vessel, but the main hull is significantly longer and more sharply pointed. The Allegiance will most likely be the largest standard Star Destroyer design ever commissioned. At 2,200 metres it is over 30% larger than a standard Star Destroyer. It's hangar has been removed, and hull space has been maximized with the heaviest compliment of weapons and shield generators that the Empire could fit. A backup shield, a rarity in the Empire, has been added to give this ship extra staying power on the battlefield. Although she has no starfighter defenses to speak of, the Allegiance is meant to be deployed according to the new Imperial Fleet Doctrine, in fleet groups that will give it adequate fighter coverage allowing the Allegiance to do what it does best, obliterate enemy ships. The Star Destroyer's design omits any carrier or mothership role, it is purely for warfare; physical vulnerabilities are reduced and hull plating is extensive. The Allegiance design assumes and is dedicated to large fleet engagements, operating in concert with complementary warship designs. Since the Allegiance-class lacks a hangar bay, it carries no starfighter complement, nor any ground assault vehicles, and as such houses less troops than the smaller Imperial-classes.
