Nawa was born an orphan on the planet Ryloth. He was often teased because of his smaller size and sickly appearance, and because no one staked claim to him, he was sold early on into the slave trade. He grew up on various slave ships, passed from master to master, and as he grew older he was sold to seedier, wealthier men (and sometimes women) in the backwater areas of space. Much of his later adult life was spent on the planet Tatooine as servant to the venerable Tiro the Hutt, until a wandering shapeshifter named Cypher kidnapped him and took him to the Hutt moon Nar Shaddaa.

Nawa was born an orphan on the planet Ryloth. He was often teased because of his smaller size and sickly appearance, and because no one staked claim to him, he was sold early on into the slave trade. He grew up on various slave ships, passed from master to master, and as he grew older he was sold to seedier, wealthier men (and sometimes women) in the backwater areas of space. Much of his later adult life was spent on the planet Tatooine as servant to the venerable Tiro the Hutt, until a wandering shapeshifter named Cypher kidnapped him and took him to the Hutt moon Nar Shaddaa. He lived and worked in the Secura Vida cantina and Brothel in the Lower City of Nar Shaddaa until one night changed his life. The powerful Revenant Maurader, the Shistavanen Skole, noticed Nawa's friendship with jay and promtply harrassed the young Twi'lek. Cypher, being thick headed stepped in and chalanged skole, and was nearly killed. To save his master, Nawar'anu offered himself in return for Cypher's life, and Skole accepted. Cypher refused to step down, and continued to fight Skole. Nawar'anu was caught in the middle of the ensuing battle and if not for then-Security Chief Nyt Shade's interference would have died. Nawa's ownership was disputed and brought before the Hutt Council, which then decreed that Nawar'anu was free. Nawa was them promtply kid napped and brutally raped by skole. These rapings and brainwashing proceeded for quiet some time untill Skoles death at the hands of jedi. After being officially freed from slavery, Nawa took up the mechanic trade, using his special ability.
