Carrack Carrack
rdfs:comment
Because of their slow speed and construction, a player constructing carracks should not rely fully on them, but build three to six for massing sea power, and escort them with a variety of light vessels and fire ships. As War Galleys and Lantern Galleys are fast-moving ships, use a variety of ships to force galleys into your Carracks' field of fire, where their devastating broadside attack will sink them in less than a minute. Carrack is a technology in Age of Empires II HD: The African Kingdoms that is unique to the Portuguese and can be researched at the Castle. Once researched, it increases the armor of ships by +1/+1. A carrack was developed in 15th century Western Europe for use in the Atlantic Ocean. It had a high rounded stern with large aftcastle, forecastle and bowsprit at the stem. It was first used by the Portuguese (its creators), and later by the Spanish, to explore and map the world. It was usually square-rigged on the foremast and mainmast and lateen-rigged on the mizzenmast. The most notable carrack was the ship captained by El Patron. The Anvil Carrack has been the vanguard of every UEE exploration effort in recent years. The ship features reinforced fuel tanks for long-duration flight, a highly advanced jump drive array and a dedicated computer core room that allows it to put the maximum processing power into jump charting operations. Originally a military exclusive, the Carrack is now available for civilian use as a pathfinder spacecraft. On-board accommodations allow for truly self-sufficient flight, including crew medical and repair facilities, and a mapping-oriented sensor suite capable of always charting a route home! The Carrack is the standard heavy ship of the Medieval Age and is built and upgraded at the Dock. Like heavy ships in general, it is supposed to be more effective against Light Ships, while in turn being weak against Fire Ships. The Carrack upgrades from the Galley, thereby receiving +40 hit points, +1 armor, +2 attack strength, +2 movement speed, and +1 line of sight. There are no unique units replacing the Carrack. The Carrack is a Portuguese unique unit in the Civilization games. A carrack or nau was a three- or four-masted sailing ship developed in the 15th century by the Portuguese for use in the Atlantic Ocean and became widely used by Europe's maritime powers. It had a high rounded stern with large aftcastle, forecastle and bowsprit at the stem. It was first used by the Portuguese, and later by the Spanish, to explore and map the world. It was usually square-rigged on the foremast and mainmast and lateen-rigged on the mizzenmast.

n30:abstract
A carrack or nau was a three- or four-masted sailing ship developed in the 15th century by the Portuguese for use in the Atlantic Ocean and became widely used by Europe's maritime powers. It had a high rounded stern with large aftcastle, forecastle and bowsprit at the stem. It was first used by the Portuguese, and later by the Spanish, to explore and map the world. It was usually square-rigged on the foremast and mainmast and lateen-rigged on the mizzenmast. Carracks were ocean-going ships: large enough to be stable in heavy seas, and roomy enough to carry provisions for long voyages. They were the ships in which the Portuguese and the Spanish explored the world in the 15th and 16th centuries. In Portuguese this type was called a nau, while in Spanish it is called a carraca or nao. In French it was called a caraque or nef. As the forerunner of the great ships of the age of sail, the carrack was one of the most influential ship designs in history; while ships became more specialized, the basic design remained unchanged throughout the Age of Sail. The Carrack is a Portuguese unique unit in the Civilization games. Carracks were ocean-going ships: large enough to be stable in heavy seas, and roomy enough to carry provisions for long voyages. They were the ships in which the Portuguese and the Spanish explored the world in the 15th and 16th centuries. In Portuguese this type was called 'nau', while in Spanish it is called 'carraca' or 'nao'. In French it was called a 'caraque' or 'net'. As the forerunner of the great ships of the age of sail, the carrack was one of the most influential ship designs in history; while ships became more specialized, the basic design remained unchanged throughout the Age of Sail. The most notable carrack was the ship captained by El Patron. Carrack is a technology in Age of Empires II HD: The African Kingdoms that is unique to the Portuguese and can be researched at the Castle. Once researched, it increases the armor of ships by +1/+1. The Carrack is a promised feature of the $33 million crowdfunding goal. Catégorie:Vaisseaux Because of their slow speed and construction, a player constructing carracks should not rely fully on them, but build three to six for massing sea power, and escort them with a variety of light vessels and fire ships. As War Galleys and Lantern Galleys are fast-moving ships, use a variety of ships to force galleys into your Carracks' field of fire, where their devastating broadside attack will sink them in less than a minute. The Portuguese, being masters of carrack construction, have access to two different vessels. The first is a cheaper but weaker ship, called the nau and replaces the cog; the second is a carrack called the São Gabriel. This ship is the best heavy ship, but has the same cost structure as a lantern galley, and has the carrack's knack for endurance awhile retaining the lantern galley's propensity for mobility. The São Gabriel was one of the ships in da Gama's fleet that reached India; similar ships would be used by French and Spanish explorers in the New World: the Santa María, which brought Columbus to America, was a carrack; it was also thought that la Dauphine, de Verrazano's ship which reached the Atlantic coast of North America, is thought to be a carrack. Carracks, however, did not always perform up to standard: being huge they were slow and cumbersome and weren't as flexible as the galley, particularly if they got becalmed — the English fleet of the mid-16th century sported carracks (called "great ships") and galleasses. As the first of a series of tall ships to dominate European navies, carracks were often risky investments: the Mary Rose, an English carrack, was lost during a battle with French galleys off the Solent in 1545 when she accidentally started taking on water possibly due to defective design. Another, Great Michael nearly bankrupted the Scottish Crown with her upkeep costs. Thus, galleys and carracks were used in tandem throughout the Renaissance, well until the end of the 17th century, when more sophisticated sailing vessels became available to replace the carrack in combat duty and relegated galleys to picket duty and coastal patrol.
