As with the first film, Gremlins 2 is a live action horror comedy film; however, Dante put effort into taking the sequel in new anarchic directions. The film is meant to be more cartoon-like than the darker original, and the violence is fairly slapstick. There are also a number of parodies of other films and stories, most notably Gremlins itself, as well as the Rambo films, The Wizard of Oz, Marathon Man and The Phantom of the Opera. As with the first film, critical response varied. Some critics who thought the first film was too dark gave Gremlins 2 better reviews, but it received a colder reception from fans who thought otherwise. The movie stars Zach Galligan as Billy Peltzer, Phoebe Cates as Kate Beringer, John Glover as Daniel Clamp, Robert Prosky as Grandpa Fred and Robert Picardo as Forster. As in the previous movie, Gizmo is voiced by Howie Mandel. The intelligent Brain Gremlin is voiced by Tony Randall. The veteran British horror actor Christopher Lee, who between the 1950s and 1970s appeared in many European movies as characters including Count Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, the Mummy and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, also has a prominent role in Gremlins 2 as Dr. Catheter. A possible reference to Lee's role of Dracula may be made in the film, as the character Grandpa Fred appears frequently throughout the movie, dressed in a Dracula costume. In the opening sequence, Chuck Jones added an animated scene featuring Bugs Bunny & Daffy Duck. The first scene appears at the very beginning of the movie, and features the classic "Looney Tunes" opening card, causing people to assume it is the short cartoon that usually plays before a movie begins; however, when Bugs Bunny appears through the rings on top of the Warner Brothers shield, Daffy interrupts the intro, and steals the shield from Bugs. Daffy attempts to recreate the opening with himself in place of Bugs Bunny, but the shield overshoots, causing the entire title card to fall apart. Daffy surrenders the stardom, claiming that since he won't star in the cartoon, they might as well just skip straight to the movie. Bugs is willing to do so, and spins Daffy off screen like a spinning Gremlins 2: The New Batch is the second film in the gremlins series. It was released on June 15th 1990 under the same company banner, Warner Bros. Pictures, as is predecessor Gremlins. There were also three video games for the NES, Game Boy, and ZX Spectrum based on the movie.

After Daffy says the slogan, the back of the Warner Brothers shield smashes him. He peeks his head out to the left side and says, "Fade out!" and the segment ends.
